Do you have pain when you first get out of bed?

I do! In the weirdest of places though.

When I wake up, I stretch really hard while I’m still laying down, and that always feels good, but then when I actually stand up and make my way to the bathroom, my ankles and the soles of my feet hurt!

I’ve never understood why. I’m flexible still, Ron says I’m very “bendy” 😂 and walk and move and am on pmy feet a lot, but I'm not supporting huge weight excess. I have 8-10 extra pounds Im carrying right now but I can’t imagine that would be making my feet and ankles hurt! 🤷‍♀️

Sometimes.... if my back is playing up, then yes it hurts like Billy-o in the morning when I get up, and sometimes I can't stand up straight . .. but that's not every day, or even every week thankfully...However every morning I do feel that the tendons in the back of my legs have shrunk in the night so it's a bit sore to walk for the first few steps till they seem to relax back to normal...

I think it’s quite normal to have aches and pains when first waking up Ronni. That’s a natural part of aging plus people don’t take into consideration that feet gain and lose weight with weight fluctuations which sometimes throws our gait off a bit before adjusting. Oddly enough feet , hands, fingers and toes are often the first areas in the body which start getting arthritis. Limiting carbs often helps but just keep stretching. The worst thing you can do is nothing. Your body will seize up but I doubt you will ever be in ‘that’ category.

I ache lots upon rising, but it's surprising how quickly I feel better once I get moving. I ease into the day, stretching for 10 minutes, warm bath. By the time I come downstairs I am ok except my knees are very stiff. I do get lower back pain something awful when I get up out of my armchair.

I think back to being a child, what it was like to bounce out of bed without any pain. I took it for granted for so long.

For me I tend to be reminded of old injuries. A pain here, a tightness there, etc.. The parts of your body that were injured have a way of reminding you that they're still there and (hopefully) still working, but not as well as the uninjured parts.

You just described my mornings Holly. I make my way to my back brace (belt) which gives me some relief if I tighten it up. Gets me to the coffee pot and that’s important.

I feel best when I first wake up in the morning and tire out as the day goes on. Seems like I'm the opposite of everyone else here, but I tend to feel best when rested, whether it's a night's sleep or a nap on days off.

@Ronni Do your feet hurt when you get up in the night to go to the washroom? Maybe you’re not a multiple trips per night kinda gal.

I have found that if I don’t get enough potassium, I wake up the next morning achy and sometimes with aches in the arch of my foot.
So I try to eat one or two bananas a day and it helps greatly.

Also, if I don’t drink a sufficient amount of water during the day, the next morning, I wake up feeling tired.

One thing that definitely makes a difference (in a bad way) is if I drink a Coca-Cola during the day
the next morning morning my “bones hurt”.

Even my son, that is 28, is the same way, If he drinks a Coke he will wake up the next morning and say that his bones hurt.

O, I also restrict my sodium intake because I have arthritis in my fingers.
If I eat too much salt, my fingers are swollen and achy in the mornings.

So…
1) bananas for potassium
2) plenty of water
3) no coca-Cola
4) low sodium

I have learned what works best for me.

But sometimes I forget to take my own advice 😊

I use to have leg cramps at 3 am (never during the day!). Since taking a daily calcium tablet (from Costco) the cramps are BANISHED!!
The calcium tablet is in addition to 2 to 3 cups of milk daily as well as 2+ miles of daily walks.

Hm. No. Am I supposed to?

I can stand/walk for a six-hour shift at work, but woe is me when I get home and sit down. Then my feet ache and burn. Maybe that happens to remind me to keep moving while I still can?
