Do you have pollen allergies?

I have multiple allergies that often determine what I do each day. I get a pollen count via my zip code at
https://www.pollen.com/forecast/current/pollen/14826

The allergy forecast today ,in my Zip code is 9.6 - medium to high.

Years ago I signed up at the above sight and get emails with the daily pollen count.

I already opted out of a big picnic someone locally is planning for mid August- if you are allergic to ragweed aka hay fever , here in NY that is a peak time for ragweed spores to fill the air.

When COVID hit, I already had plenty of those surgical masks, as I have used them, for years, as well as a full face clear plastic mask, when I do yard work.

Some people still believe ,I think, that Golden Rod is ragweed, but that is not the case, and this article shows the difference:

Ragweed vs Goldenrod? What's Growing in Your Yard?

However ragweed does grow in the same type of soil as goldenrod does, and can be difficult to see, as it seems to grow shorter plants.

It is miserable to have allergies. And sometimes hard for others without allergies to understand how miserable they can be.

In my 30's I had allergies bad. I was dysfunctional at times. Then I moved to a farm, and started eating from our land. I guess that helped because it went away. Then around 10 years ago, when we were buying more food from the stores they came back. Now I am quite allergic to tree pollen, which is HIGH this week. So I stay inside, and rinse my sinuses twice a day with a Neti pot.

I have had hay fever all my life, as a kid I used to rub my itchy eyes so much that my tear duct would swell and start to cover more of my eye. My mother was constantly scolding me for rubbing my eyes.

She took me to a doctor who said I had hay fever, mostly allergic to ragweed, but I know other things affect me. Seems it's become better as I age, but on dry and windy days I do a lot of sneezing and blowing my nose.

Allergies are miserable, and it seems like with climate change the temps have been more mild and the weeds and other plants bloom earlier and stay around longer. I used to long for the hard freeze in fall to relieve my allergies, but that comes later and later, some years don't seem to come at all regarding allergies. I only take over the counter allergy pills every once in a while, I don't like to take them every day, and they only help so much.

Sorry you have to miss that picnic, but I can understand why.....hugs.

I think I'm allergic to mold but cannot find a site that gives a mold spore count for my area. (I thought I'd finally found such a site but got the old dreaded "404 - page not found" when I clicked on it.)

Oh, well, even if I do find such a site, it'd just recommend me staying indoors and I do that most of the time anyway.

My allergies are horrible and have gotten much worse with age. I have tried so many different remedies and they only help a little bit. I am allergic to everything growing outside plus having inside allergies.

Sometimes during the spring and fall I feel like I have the flu. However, I take a daily walk outside and don’t limit any of my activities. I love being outside and it’s just something I have to live with. The only thing that keeps me inside is smoke from wildfires as I also have asthma.

Very true words! When healthy people look at those who sniffle and sneeze in summer and fall, it seems funny from the outside. I have not rarely seen smiles. But, in fact, it is not just snot, it is headaches, terrible fatigue, depression, unbearable swelling and itching in the nasopharynx, in the eyes, so strong and painful that it is impossible to tolerate. The eyes feel as if broken glass had been poured into them.

If don't stop it with pills, it's a real torture.
If I for example now, smell somewhere like ambrosia (specific bitterness), I just get mad. In my youth, I felt stupor and intense fear.

Many people don't understand the happiness that a person feels when they stop taking allergy medication.
I wish you all good health.

Mine used to be worse. My doctor has me taking Claritin and Flonase year round though and things have been so much better that I almost never notice seasonal changes now except at the peaks of pollen levels.

I don't suffer with hay fever (summer months) but suffer in the autumn with rotting leaves, mould spores and the like.
Never take anything for it.

My lawn suffers from holding 'wetness', I've forked it regularly but nothing works. It always seems to have set areas, probably because I'm surrounded by lots of trees. So with that in mind, mowing it still brings out the mould spores or whatever it is that causes me with problems.
It's full of mushrooms at the moment and large areas of black mould. Pretty patterns though!

Shame the washing lines are over the lawn - since last year I've stopped putting the washing out to dry as it seemed to pick up the spores - most of which lands up on my bedding as it's nearer the grass. :(

Fortunately, I have "outgrown" many of my numerous allergies over the years. I still sneeze and get a drippy nose, but stopped taking antihistamines a few years ago, as they made me feel "too dry" - if that makes any sense.

Huh. Maybe some saline spray?

I guess I don't have pollen allergies, it makes my nose run a lot, but I guess I'm just having some nasal irritation and not an actual allergic reaction.
