I have a friend from Seattle who arrived yesterday afternoon. Seattle is a beautiful city with lots to do so I felt some pressure to impress her. So we entertained her in a way only Dallas could.

The weather is great right now, so yesterday we took her to the Dallas Arboretum and then to an outdoor barbecue restaurant, complete with country music. She loved it.

Today I took her to the JFK Sixth Floor Museum. She was 12 y/o when he was assassinated and is obsessed with it, so she was amazed to be able to look out of the window where the shots were fired and onto the Grassy Knoll, and to watch the videos and read the commentary about this incident that affected our lives.

We then went to the Holocaust and Human Rights Museum. It is hard to explain, but a few of the remaining Holocaust survivors have been filmed recently and have been asked thousands of questions so their knowledge will remain long after they have passed. There is a hologram of one survivor that (through AI) you can ask questions and receive detailed responses based on his experience. I've visited before and it is fascinating. I've included a video about it. There is also one of the original boxcars that was used to transfer Jews to death camps. It is always a sad and harrowing experience, but it is educational nonetheless.

For dinner, we took her to a fine Mexican restaurant. She was going to give us the leftovers but she finished everything!

All in all, she was blown away by how much Dallas has to offer. It was also good for me as well because I rarely venture outside of my 10-mile bubble so it was nice for me to see how the city has grown and progressed as well. Such a fun and educational time!

it is fun to go and explore or see your city or nearby bigger city as a first timer would ...... i have done tours and enjoyed sites forgetting how long it has been ...

I think I told you before that my mom was born and raised in Dallas so I spent one week each summer there visiting relatives. The main thing I remember from those trips was going to the original Dickey's BBQ location. I loved the food there. I always had a good time on those trips (except for the visiting relatives part). I also remember going to my first NFL game in Dallas. I don't remember the logistics of it but my parents and I went there in the fall and my grandfather took me to see a Cowboys game at the Cotton Bowl. Of course Dallas was a lot smaller then but seemed huge to me because at the time Phoenix was just a small city.

I do have a rather set routine for those visiting where I live. Of course Mexican food at my favorite place is a must but other activities include going to the Heard Museum, The Desert Botanical Gardens ,The Musical International Museum, going to a spring training game if it's in the Spring, and a few other things depending on their interests. There is a Mattel Adventure Park opening up at the end of the year so I am sure my great nephews and niece will enjoy visiting that when they come to town.

Do I normally visit these places ? Not really. Except for the Mexican restaurant of course. Like you, I mainly stay in my little part of the city except for special occasions.
