Do you like traditional English puddings?

What about Spotted Richard with custard? Yes indeed, due to the mirth which the name Spotted Dick usually provokes, restaurant staff at the Houses of Parliament dubbed it Spotted Richard.
Anyway, I am making it today. I love classic British puds, last week was apple pie, next week a steamed treacle sponge. It is heavenly to have a proper homemade pudding with traditional Sunday roast. Makes life worth living in my view - I find baking most relaxing though for our weights sake pudding is only once weekly or when we eat out for special occasions.

So what's your favourite if you are English?
What is your classic favourite if you are American or from another part of the world and when do you eat it?

No spotted dick for me either thanks but I do love tapioca, a good baked rice pudding, love warm custard with sliced banana. Chocolate or rich old fashioned vanilla pudding is very good. I thoroughly enjoy a well made pudding. Nothing pre packed.

Eaton Mess; Eve's Pudding; Rhubarb Crumble and multiple cobblers; Rice Pudding and Victoria's Sponge.

Blackberries, strawberries, rhubarb and anything with butterscotch or caramel, oh yes! 😂😂😂

I never eaten English pudding, but I understand it is cake-like in a way.

Where I live, pudding is more like a custard is in England. It's smooth and creamy.
not all of them ... suet is in spotted Dick.... yuk...it's horrible... bread pudding is worse...bread & butter pudding is awful...sago is disgusting as is tapioca..

I like custard... eton mess... rice pudding, Macaroni pudding... but really I hardly ever eat puddings...I'm not really very keen

Like others before me..I prefer the savoury puddings.. Black pudding, white pudding, Yorkshire pudding...steak & kidney pudding

One upon a time Yorkshire pudding was served as a dessert...with Jam...

Prior to that, back in the early 20th century before and during the war Yorkshire pudding was served before the main meal to fill the family up before they were served a tiny amount of meat and veg for their main course..

I was watching a 25 year old rerun of Nigela Lawson last night.. and co-incidentally she was making roast beef for Sunday lunch... and she made yorkshire pudding.. but not to be served with the meat but to be served very hot with Double cream as a dessert...

I've never had an actual British pudding. My mother used to cook the the custard stuff that came as a boxed powder to which milk, was added. I ate it, but it was never something I would go out of my way for.

I think I'm the only one who hates trifle.. everyone seems to like it..it's a very traditional English pudding... but I hate, and detest Wet sponge.. and of course trifle has sponge immersed in cold custard and jelly ( jello)..
Chocolate/mocha trifle has brownie squares.

Black pudding reminds me too much of head cheese. No thank you. 😜
whaaaaat?... how did you make that comparison ? :ROFLMAO:
