Do you like your middle name?

You don't have to tell me what it is. I just wonder how you feel about it? Do you like it more than not? Does it flow well with your first and last names?

I hated the middle name my parents gave me. I thought my whole name was too long. When we had to fill out forms in school there would be boxes for us to print our names. One letter per box and I always ran out of boxes so I would cry and the nuns would yell at me on top of it. I was SIX so cut me some slack. I was very happy when confirmation age came and I could change my middle name to something short and sweet and feminine and sassy.

No, not chic. Lol. I might have but it wasn't a choice.

My middle name is my father's first name; he actually has no middle name himself. My two forenames work well enough together. However, I've always had inner reservations about my middle name, and that probably reflects my slightly tense father/son relationship.

I went through school with one classmate who used his middle name as his first name, which I found interesting.
 
I love my middle name !
It is Winona, ,and is a Native American name , from the Lakota Tribe, and means “first born daughter”, which I am.
It was also my mother’s middle name, and she was also an only child, just like I was; so it fit for both of us.
My maternal grandmother was German, and came over when she was in her early 20’s and married my grandfather; so I am not sure how she learned about the Indian name for my mother.

My grandfather was an Indian Agent in Arizona (or maybe also in Texas, where they lived when my mother was born), and that might be how my grandmother learned about an Indian name and what it meant.
In any case, I really love the name, but have never gone by anything except “Yvonne”, my first name. (I love that, too. I am not sure where my mother came up with that name for me, as it is not anywhere in our family history. )
 
My middle name is the fist name of Both my grandmothers. It doesn't flow with my first name... so sometimes I use it instead of my first name but in it's shortened version. It has a lot of versions... like Elizabeth which can be Liz, Betty lizzie,. Eliza and so on... this is the same with my middle name.. so I never use it in it's full version, but instead in one of the shortened versions..
 
My middle name is the same as my Dad's. Well, my first and last also match his as a "Junior."

I never had an issue with it, and I think it fits pretty well into the flow of the full name. And the entire thing always felt pretty strong to me.

Too long? Well I can't lay that on my middle name.

Over my life I've been called by variations on my first name, but avoiding collisions with the nicknames applied to cousins - for clarity/distinction. Big clans on both sides of my family. For a time in one setting/community I even went by the initials of my first and middle name.

To me the nicknames used for disambiguation within families are more interesting than rarely-used middle names. In different social milieus I go by different ones. One is only used by family, being the one I was called by from birth.

Then there are the many names I get called by here on Senior Forums. :ROFLMAO:
 
I like my middle name now as opposed to when I was growing up. It is after my paternal grandmother.

One of my brothers claimed I changed its spelling to a fancier version (there are 3 ways to spell it) which was disproved by my birth certificate! Btw, he's the only one of us not given a middle name. 😁
 
My daughter has a hyphenated first name so no middle name.. but she prefers to use just the first part of her name.. and the second part as a middle name..

On my paternal side all the first born men have the same first name, from my great grandfather. grandfather ..to my father, my oldest brother and down to my nephew... my father grandfather and grt grandfather had the same middle name.. my brother has the surname of his mother ( my fathers' first wife )... and my nephew despite being named the same as the paternal men.. uses a completely unrelated first name.. given to him by his parents as nickname

Despite the pleasure he got out of naming me & my 4 brothers after US presidents, my dad gave all of us nicknames that didn't even resemble our real names. (with one exception)

My name's Franklin and I always use Frank, but to dad and most of the family, I'm Mick.

The whole world knows me as James or Jim but I had a great aunt that called me Jimbo.
My brother and sister picked up on that and simply called me Bo my entire life while no one else has.
My father was a James and went by Jim, so my parents called me Jimmy, as do others in the extended family.
