Do you mind eating alone in a restaurant?

When I first broke up with my ex, It felt strange to eat alone in a restaurant. But I got over it. Yeah, it would be nice to have company, yet I'm not going to slit a wrist if I have to eat by myself. How about you? Do you mind eating alone in a restaurant?

I have to admit it's not my favourite thing to do alone... I can more easily eat in a cafe alone.. but somehow in a restaurant I always feel conspicuous when I'm on my own..

It depends on the situation.

If I’m in a hotel, I prefer room service.

If it’s a casual or fast food restaurant it’s not a problem but I wouldn’t go into a fine dining restaurant alone.

Also, I don’t share tables or eat at the bar.

I have never had an issue. When I lived alone before, if I wanted to go out, and had no one to go with, I just went, I would have missed out on a lot if I waited for someone to go with

My sister's husband insists on driving her everywhere, she does have a driver's license, but he insists. I find that a little bit too controlling.

I love eating alone in restaurants. I really dislike talking at the table. My dad was like that, and he insisted we sit quietly and just eat our meals.

If it’s a casual or fast food restaurant it’s not a problem but I wouldn’t go into a fine dining restaurant alone.

When you have a spouse, you never feel alone.
When you lose your spouse, there's an emptiness that contributes to discomfort when you go out alone. You need to feel connected and you're not connected to anything.

so you try to connect to others in ways that appear inappropriate in the beginning.

You have to get to a point of acceptance about your empty life. Once it's achieved you can get around better.

I don't like to hang around married couples because I feel the void too intensely.

I basically focus on the people around me who are on their own. I can relate to them.

I'm at a disadvantage from now on and I realize that and accept it knowing my widowed father went through the same thing.

Yes, I like shopping alone and it's nice to pop into a coffee bar or cafe. I avoid the lunch hour just because most places get so busy but, once they have all gone back to work, it's a welcome break from the shops.

That depends on the company. My mother's second husband would distract her at fast-food places in order to quickly snatch food from her plate and eat it.

I don't mind it for lunch. Dinner is another story though. I don't do that. And yes, when I am having lunch alone, I am one of those who are staring at my phone while waiting for my food

The only time I've done it is when I was on a business trip. Sometimes you need to get away from everyone and have a think and relax, you know? But in terms of whether I'd go to a restaurant alone tomorrow, then no, no I wouldn't. I see restaurants as more of a social thing now, and I can socialize on my own any time.

I absolutely hate hate hate it. It is almost a phobia with me and always has been. I can make myself do fast food…but usually drive thru. When work would take me out of towm i would order pizza. Weird…

I don't mind eating alone when going out, not a big deal.....and I have the phone out too.

After traveling in the business world for years I found it quite easy to eat alone. Due to the way I grew up, much of my life was in solo mode. My immediate three siblings were girls, and I was all boy. I do have to older brothers 17 and 19 years my senior who until I had a family of my own seemed more like uncles. It was only when I assumed the responsibility for a family of my own that I actually grew close to my brothers.

If it's a lunch counter I don't mind. If it's a restaurant and I can get a table for 1 near the wall, I don't mind. Otherwise, sitting in the middle of a restaurant I would feel uncomfortable. My hobby is cooking and baking, so I mostly eat at home. I own various types of cookware, and really enjoy using them.

I don't mind. I usually bring a book. I've only ever eaten alone in casual restaurants, though, never in an upscale place.
