Yes, just the essentials: handgun, shot gun, ranch rifle.
DittoI own more than a few, with plenty of ammunition. I use them regularly at the shooting range. I grew up in a family of hunters. Although I have not hunted for many years I still like to keep proficient at hitting what I aim at.
That would be a Smith & Wesson (S&W) Model 28, an N-frame revolver. I used to have a Colt Trooper III, which had a six inch barrel. I sold it and bought a S&W Model 36, which had a 2 inch barrel, and could be carried in a pancake holster.Yes. I kept a S & W Highway Patrolman 357 and two others.
I sold all the rifles and shotguns and the rest of the handguns and all the ammo after the husband passed away.
Can you hit anything with a 2" barrel? I attended a handgun course and one person had a nickel plated revolver with a 2" barrel. On the range he couldn't even hit a target at 5 yards. That would be a Smith & Wesson (S&W) Model 28, an N-frame revolver. I used to have a Colt Trooper III, which had a six inch barrel. Well admittedly a handgun with a 2" barrel is more for close encounters, but I think with practice a person should be able to make a decent showing at 5 yards. Can you hit anything with a 2" barrel? Same here and have several types stashed everywhere. Every few feet. No, but I carry a knife.

I don't see the need to defend myself in my home. I rarely lock the back door. When I do it is usually because I am going out, so what good would a firearm be then?Yes! I started carrying in 2010 when I saw how bad things were getting here in America.
I have a morbid curiosity about countries where firearms are banned and look at what is happening in Canada, The UK and Australia.
Interesting to see how people are supposed to defend their homes without any kind of weapon.
Guns are not universally banned in Australia but certain types of guns are. To apply for a gun licence you must have a reason for wanting one; self defence is not considered a valid reason. Membership of a gun club or needing to control feral pests on a farm is a valid reason. Collectors have been allowed to accumulate many guns. There are rules about safe storage of the firearms and ammunition and all guns must be registered. Then I read where there are more guns In Australia now than when the ban went into effect in the late 90s. Then they point out that one guy has over 400 guns. I don’t know why they would be that far out of proportion. One guy with 400 and a few million without any gun at all.
The government in Western Australia has brought in new legislation following the murder of a mother and daughter by an estranged partner who had a collector's licence. So it isn’t as much whether we have a right to carry a weapon here in the States as it is that we have a basic right to defend our selves from the threat of death or bodily harm at the hands of an assailant.
Of course that depends on being reponsible and using good judgement.
Australia's strictest gun laws that passed the Western Australian parliament in June 2024 will see thousands of guns removed from the community. Under the new laws, WA has become the first jurisdiction in Australia to limit how many guns an individual can own and has imposed several new requirements to improve gun monitoring and regulation. The Firearms Act 2024, passed by parliament on 19 June 2024, mandates compulsory training and regular health checks as well as stricter storage and authorisation requirements for licence holders.
WA premier Roger Cook said "for the first time, Western Australia's firearms laws elevate public safety above the privilege of owning a gun”.
His police minister, Paul Papalia, said the new laws would "make WA a safer place for everyone and will benefit future generations for decades to come".
The WA government further boosted safety measures in response to the brutal shooting murders of Jennifer and Gretl Petelczyc in Perth on 24 May 2024. The mother and daughter were shot dead by a man using a handgun legally owned under collector licences searching to kill his estranged wife and daughter.
These new measures enable WA police to seize all guns without warrant when domestic violence, or the threat of it, is reported against a gun owner. This comes after the murderer’s daughter revealed she had warned police several times her father would use one of his many guns to kill her and her mother.
Strictest gun restrictions now law in WA
