Do you remember Liberace?

I had to get Shirley McClaine's signature on an insurance document.

She answered her beach house door in Malibu wearing a food-stained house coat, 6 months preggers &

bare feet. A real put down for a Hollywood star. She signed the paper and was very nice about the whole thing.

Also, George Goebel was my flying instructor when we were together in the Air Force. We spent many an hour
in the air.

Never cared for Liberace,he seemed a bit to out of the closet for me (sorry no offense intended )
Until,he was performing at Radio City Music Hall in NYC,and I got tickets for my hubbys birthday, he LOVED him!
I was absolutely enchanted and came away with a totally different opinion on him.

Loved his show. The movie "Steel Magnolias" was made in my home town and we would see the stars eating at the local cafes but we would not approach them altho those that did were rewarded with autographs and nice conversations. Also Horse Soldiers was shot there and John Wayne would mingle with the locals and everybody loved him. I remember my mother and her friends having a great time trying to get peeks at the Magnolias stars and their gossiping about them. My mother owned a beauty shop at that time so we heard a lot of gossip about the movie when the ladies got their hair done before Sunday services. And they all did look like "football" helmets like M'Lynn's did after Truvy did her hair. It was the look then and most of the ladies at church had the same style as M'Lynns on Sunday.

I happen to know after falling ill in Pittsburgh & being well cared for by the Sisters at St. Francis Hospital, he made many donations there & came back often to see the Sisters & other patients as often as he could. I worked there &'happened to be outside one day when he drove up, all smiles. He didn't publicize his visits to the media. It was like he was visiting family & the sisters loved him.

My mother watched Liberace on tv, and I never liked him much. BUT once when husband and I visited out of town friends in the early '80s they took us to a Liberace concert and I absolutely LOVED IT, much to my surprise. He was a great showman and entertainer.

StarSong, have you watched any episodes of The Americans? Richard Thomas plays a high-ranking FBI man, and still looks and sounds exactly like John-Boy!

I haven't, though I saw him guesting in something just a year or two ago and thought how little he's changed over the years.
