Do you still cook?

Cook? I suppose one could call it that. I always have a few weeks supply of my thick, multi-bean soup frozen and ready to use. Same with loaves (I bake 4 at a time) of whole grain (oat, barley, quinoa, wheat or variations of that) bread frozen and ready to use. I eat raw broccoli, red cabbage, red onions, carrots, sweet potato and leafy greens every day. About a cup or more of triple berry (blueberry, raspberry and blackberry blend) every day. An avocado and an apple every day. Various kinds of nuts every day.
A hard boiled egg (pasture raised & organic) every day. Three or four mornings every week I have a thick slurry of oat bran, hemp seed powder and milled flax seed mixed up to the consistency of a milk shake to accompany my avocado and hard boiled egg breakfast. On other mornings I have that homemade bread dipped in olive oil to accompany the fruit and egg. I reinforce my bean/grain paired proteins with yogurt or sardines a couple times a week.

My doctor says he approves of this diet. I do a daily exercise routine too. I intend for my body to go into old age in a healthy way. I'm still working on the mental health thing.
I like the way you eat, and what you eat.
I wish I was that dedicated to my meal planning.

I have to have a cheeseburger every once in a while.

I have always cooked although a bit oddly. I have never eaten a fruit or vegetable in my life ( I compensate with vitamins to avoid scurvy ;)) . I consider myself a carnivore. I learned to cook most everything for my late wife after she became ill. Now I will air fry or crock pot meals enough for 3 or 4 days and freeze some for later. And I certainly could not live without a microwave and a toaster!

Cooking is one of my favorite things to do and I'm constantly looking for new recipes. I have tons of cookbooks from decades of collecting them, but it's become so easy to find recipes online now that they're basically going to waste. 🤷‍♀️
I like cooking and baking too! and do the same, have quite some books and keep searching online for more recipes:D Since I'm alone and I can't cook for one person I make a bigger meal/soup and freeze it, then when I don't have time to cook I have some meal in the freezer.

I can cook simple meals and quite often depend on canned and prepared foods like frozen ravioli, tater tots, soup, bagged salad mix, etc.
I like to cook and especially eat, but I HATE to clean up afterwards. It seems after the prep of even a simple meal, there's a sink full of dishes.
at the risk of destroying my hearing by hearing the screams of anguish from over the pond..I will suggest it anyway..... how about buying a dishwasher ? :p

I know what you mean. I have so many cookbooks and I thought they'd sell well at my garage sale. I don't remember selling even one. I was telling a friend and she said to the effect - You can get recipes online now, so you don't have a lot of books taking up space in which you only use a recipe or two.

WOW!!! I hope this is NOT your kitchen! You need some serious cleaning done if it is. And....toss those old cookbooks. They're junk.

I have a lot of cookbooks & I'm always looking for other good ones. I also find recipes online, but I find it more satisfying going through the books.

I live alone, and cooking is not a fun thing for me, so I nuke frozen dinners. My brother dices, chops, sautés, broils, bakes, etc. No way am I doing all that. So, do you still cook? What do you mean by "cook"?
I eat clean and cook 90% of my food from scratch, using real whole foods. Don't eat any sugar at all and no processed foods. Don't enjoy cooking but cook for my health. I spend an afternoon on meal prep each week, so I don't have to come home from work and worry about what to cook.

My husband & I love to cook & do it from scratch. We keep all of the scratch basics on hand. The only packaged items on the shelf are things like stocks, canned chicken, mayo, mustards, olive oil, sundried tomatoes, etc. & most of those are organic. I find it takes up less space to have the basics rather than prepackaged meals. You can make a variety of things with just the basics.

@JBR, you do a lot of the same things we do. We also can or freeze dry from our garden. Soups are made in large batches & then frozen for later. Same for leftovers for quick meals.

@oldaunt, I agree with you that eating out is expensive & disappointing. We are down to a handful of places to eat at anymore.

No, not an option due to severe arthritis from head to toe and digestive issues.

I love salad. I miss salad. I can no longer eat salad as anything high in fiber makes me physically and severely ill and, no, I'm not going to go into gruesome detail. Just cannot eat as healthy as I wish I could. Enough said.

The arthritis means I can't stand long enough. You can buy stools to sit at counter and stop top height but it's really not the same and you have to lean forward more so kind of negates the saving on your spine though it does your hips on down to your feet. If I chop, dice, stir, etc., etc., etc, the numerous tasks cooking involves with my arthritic hands - yikes! So not worth it.

I don't cook. Stouffeur and Marie Callender cook. I don't.

I'm also high risk for heart attack/stroke so I kind of like things like the microwave and toaster that stop and turn themselves off. If I actually use stove top or oven, I live in dread that I'll keel over before the food is done. I even use an electric kettle to boil water for tea that turns itself off.

There's no need to set the building on fire due to my demise at an inconveniet time. My neighbors don't deserve that.

@debodun I find the books in the bottom photo interesting. Not sure how much you were suggesting for a price. I’d think $.25 maybe .50.

You are just a beginner, I have many more, getting rid of them is like tossing out a faithful friend. I volunteered for many years at the Friends of the library bookstore which was my downfall. I tell my husband not to complain about them because some day I might learn how to boil water.
I like to use the stove top pressure cooker for things like chick peas since we both like chole, a spicy curry. We have a lot of squash from the garden so when I'm feeling lazy they also get pressure cooked, except my butternut squash which get roasted with salt, pepper, and brown sugar or molasses.
My mother's idea of lunch was to smear a little peanut butter on some white bread. Today lunch is a big deal at our house because it is a way to show my husband I want better for him than I grew up with. He complains that I cook too much!
As I was getting to know our gardener a few years ago, I was surprised to learn that he likes to bake cookies and breads. He can't work anymore so we take him to the grocery store so he can bake all he likes and we enjoy his friendship.
