Do you still set goals for yourself?

When we were younger most of us set goals in regard to education, careers, family, etc. Now, it seems that they become rather mundane, like shedding a few pounds...

I suppose that all of my remaining goals would seem mundane to the rockers and shakers in the world. I think retirement is a great time to look inward and work on yourself. A time to drop the baggage, make peace with yourself, work on becoming a better human being, improve the world around you, etc...

I do like to have a few things to look forward to and always feel better when I have a plan, even if I don't follow it.

It's the same with me. I'd like to try the things I've always wanted to do, but didn't do because of lack of time. However it seems - the slower I become, the faster passes time.

Yes, I set retirement goals about connecting with my daydreams, such as travel. I have daily exercise goals I'd like to achieve and increase over time. I'm also thinking about going back to school when I'm eligible for free tuition at 65. I have goals about making deeper connections to nature, people, music, fine art, film, things that I didn't have enough time for when working full-time. For me the goals are the framework of my retirement.

Yes.. for sure, as I have always been a very goal oriented person. Now however, rather than career or savings goals, my goals are more personal oriented. Physical and spiritual.

At 71 I am happy to say I reached my goals. I went to nursing school, Got married, had to great kids, built our dream home. Both of us are in good health for our age. Now I have a bucket list which I guess are goals in a way. Very slowly I'm checking them off as well and when all is said and done hopefully I still will be able to enjoy life by reliving these memories through my my photos, and the lives of my kids and Grand kids. I think when that time comes I will be very satisfied with the life I have lived.

I never did set long term goals for myself, still don't. Not sure why. Just seem to take things day by day. Probably not a good thing. But there was always someone to come along and push me in the right direction. I've been very lucky in the friends I've had, I think.

You set a plan into motion anytime you do anything, drive to town, pick up a quart of milk. You have a plan in place, at my age just getting out of bed requires a plan & goal. When you are a child your parents set your goals, they plan. In school your teacher set your goals, you set a plan. When you reach adulthood you have a plan or better have one with goals, when you near retirement age you have a plan with goals. Everything changes after retirement but you have a plan with goals. Short term or long term you have a plan with goals.

Oh heck yea, gotta have goals. Losing weight(fat!), gaining muscle, improving other aspects of health....including mental health. Seeing the family more, protecting monetary assets and possessions.

Getting prepared for eventual death, that should be at the top of the list.

Me neither. Life just moved too fast and got too greedy, especially after I had kids. I just kept on truckin', went where the jobs were, and met some very interesting people along the way. It was a good life. Interesting, and I enjoyed it. But I'm kind of tuckered out now. I just enjoy time with the grandkids, figuring out the cats, and listening to my head.

I've always set at least loose goals for myself that change from time to time. I think of them more like wishes, things that seem beyond what I could accomplish, but somehow I usually do. Sometimes they take a long time. I've been studying French for a long time and would like to become fluent. When I retire I'd like to take some classes that have nothing to do with business goals but are just things that are interesting to me. I want to learn to meditate and do yoga. I want to learn more about electronics.

Goals are OK if they stay within the realm of possibility. I listen to the goals of some of my friends, and knowing them and their situation, realize that, sadly, they'll never happen. Maybe having these goals helps to keep them going, and if so, maybe they serve a purpose, but, a goal, to me is only worthwhile if there's a reasonable chance that I can fulfill it. Otherwise it's not a goal - - -just a dream.

Many of the goals I've set in my life were seemingly out of the realm of possibility. But they were attained. It often wasn't because of talent on my part, but because a good dose of luck played into it. I think just aiming in the right direction causes you to do little, seemingly inconsequential things along the way that all add up until an opportunity appears and you're ready to move.

I don't call any of my goal mundane because they are important to me. I have the goal of losing weight; short and long term. I have other goals in terms of personal growth, too.

Lifetime of being goal oriented didn't change in retirement, just set different goals once a goal is achieved. I guess it's natural to challenge oneself. I do think the older you get the easier the goals get to set and achieve.

Tell that to the 20 pounds I'm trying to lose! :yeahright:

Unfortunately, I don't have the money to support my goals. I would love to travel while I am still able, but have no idea how to pay for that goal.

I am just happy that I can "Keep on keeping on."
