I smoked a pipe in my early 20’s. Tried to be a chain smoker, but never could get the links to stay lit. Tried to smoke Camels, but they spit at me. Now I really like the way Morticia Addams smokes!

Interesting question. I'd like to add one more to it as well. For those that smoke, do you smoke inside your house or car? I know the trend is to stand outside now, no matter the weather. This is what my daughter does. She desperately needs to quit; I cant say anything.
I smoke inside while Michelle is gone but absolutely not while there's a baby here. We have Li'l K now, so I smoke outside. And I don't smoke in my car because we use it when we take Li'l K to visit family and to her appointments and shopping. For those that smoke, do you smoke inside your house or car? Before I step out for a smoke, I put on a ball cap (as usual) and my smoking jacket. Seriously. It hangs outside right by the door. Soon as I come in I wash my hands and face, or if I'm in a rush I grab a baby wipe and use that.Interesting question. I'd like to add one more to it as well.
What do you do to not make yourself "stinky"? Especially those who still live with children.
Let's not forget how many DOCTORS accepted big money to promote smoking. Doctors - who took an oath to protect & heal.........except when money is involved. Thinking people think about this before blindly following all their doctors' advice - including vaccinations:I consider Tabacco and its use to be a "Great American Tragedy"!
Over my lifetime I have watched most of my family and many of my friends lose their health and eventually die from a smoking related illness. One can debate if Tabacco use was the primary cause of death in everyone I lost, but you can bet that it was a factor in all the deaths.
I have lived through all the TV and Magazine advertising that glamorized smoking. I still watch many old movies where it seems everyone smokes, especially the strong guys and sexy women (The actors/ studios got paid by the tobacco companies to smoke on screen and in early TV)
In the early to late 50's the tobacco companies knew that their products caused cancer and heart disease. Many believe that big tobacco knew this as early as 1930. Yet in an effort to addict young men, tobacco companies donated cigarettes to support the war efforts for WWI, WWII, Korea, and Viet Nam. These were included in their food rations and most all of the young draftees were quickly addicted. Big tobacco has enjoyed that investment for many years, on the backs of many veterans riddled with lung disease and heart problems.
Has any greater epidemic ever been initiated on the American people? I don't think so! Isn't it time we stopped this madness? I am a big supporter of free market capitalism, but not when it is addictive and causes disease and death.
Those are actors and models. Not doctors demanding big bucks for their "endorsements".Let's not forget how many DOCTORS accepted big money to promote smoking. I agree, and much as it angered smokers, I think that thus far the most effective way to have huge majority give up was to price them out of the average person's pocket.I agree with everything you say.
But if Prohibition didn't work, the War on Drugs didn't work, Just Say No didn't work.....what do you propose we do to "stop the madness"?
Drugs pour into this country and are sold everywhere. Drug gangs and the Mafia make too much money.
Tobacco will become just another illegal substance sold right under everyone's noses, making criminals rich, sad to say.
Holy cow! $29.00 USD for ONE pack of cigs?I agree, and much as it angered smokers, I think that thus far the most effective way to have huge majority give up was to price them out of the average person's pocket.
I just checked the supermarket website, https://www.tesco.com/groceries/en-GB/search?query=benson and hedges
and a carton of the average priced popular cigarettes here.. are a massive.. ÂŁ72... for a carton of 5 packs of 20..a total of 100 cigarettes.. not 200...just 5 packs of 20... OMG..I'm in shock.. 5 packs of cigarettes at the cigarette kiosk is ÂŁ72... that's the equivalent of $95 US dollars..for 5 Packs of 20 cigarettes.. did I say I'm in shock ???
..and one single pack of 20 cigarettes is over ÂŁ14...sterling = to $29 dollar for ONE Pack of cigs...
I have new respect for smokers now.. they must be the richest people around...![]()
Denial - It's not just a river in Egypt. Those are actors and models. Not doctors demanding big bucks for their "endorsements".
Yes, that was one of my motivations for quitting. "I'm paying people lots of money for them to hurt me."Holy cow! $29.00 USD for ONE pack of cigs?
When I quit, one pack (of 20) was $7.00.
A carton here is 10 packs, not 5, and was about $65.00.
I know most of the cost is tax.
I'm going to look them up like you did to see what they sell for now.
beg your pardon that should have been $19 dollars for one pack not $29 dollars... that's US dollars, and the price in Sterling is over ÂŁ14 per single pack.. and all the other prices I quoted ÂŁ72 sterking for a 5 pack carton are the current prices, you can see on the link I posted to the supermarketHoly cow! $29.00 USD for ONE pack of cigs?

so that means we in the UK are charging the equivalent of $7 dollar US..more per pack than the USA..most of which goes in Tax...Connecticut is at $9.52 per pack average, with $4.95 of that being state and excise tax.
But New York is at $12.85 per pack and a few cents LESS in tax than Connecticut! That's even higher than Alaska.
Here's a link for state prices for anyone who is curious. I could not find supermarket prices.
