Apparently most Americans do!

According to a new HuffPost/YouGov poll, 64 percent of Americans favor requiring welfare recipients to submit to random drug testing -- a measure pushed by Republican lawmakers in recent years -- while 18 percent oppose it. But an even stronger majority said they're in favor of random drug testing for members of Congress, by a 78 percent to 7 percent margin. Sixty-two percent said they "strongly" favor drug testing for congressional lawmakers, compared to only 51 percent who said the same of welfare recipients.

Those in Congress and those especially running for Congress should submit to a drug test BEFORE working for the Federal Government.
bot we all know that's not going to happen.

But drug testing can and does happen when working in the open market. I have had it done to me on more than one occasion. Drug test or no work and no checks.

Is the congress or senate actually considered a DFWP or drug free workplace? Perhaps start by making that an actual condition of working there.

I don't know about drugs but but they probably find some alkies.

Congress couldn't get a bill through that requires testing of those receiving social service payments. Some individual states, however, have pass legislation to do so. So, let's have Congress pass a bill that requires any state requiring drug testing of social service recipients to also have mandatory testing of that state legislators. The result??? No states would pass mandatory testing of welfare recipients and those that have would rescind laws passed earlier.

Conviction of a misdemeanor is not grounds for expulsion from legislatures or Congress. Conviction of a felony is. So, if caught, wouldn't most elected officials plead down to a misdemeanor and continue drawing paychecks? The welfare recipients caught, in states that have passed mandatory drug screening, have seen thousands of tax dollars spent as those failing the tests litigate the State. I believe I read where Florida has spent many times over what welfare payouts would have been on testing, retesting, and defending in court the cutting off of benefits.

And how many thousands of state controlled dollars are wasted on things other than welfare for things likely not ordered if the congress were not influenced by drugs or alcohol? Nobody really knows but surely there would be some. Those mellowed minds could do many good sounding but foolish things to do.

Speaking of drug testing, I was at the supermarket the other day and a store employee was discussing how much of a difficult time they were having with finding new hires out of the incoming college kids, seems only 2 out of every something like 40 past the drug test all others keep failing.

Random drug testing for welfare recipients, who all are included in this count I wonder, even so, it's probably a waste of money as lawsuits are probably to follow to sort out the mess when people claim false positives and a whole list of issues in relation to the test results. If they think it will solve any problems, I'd all for it, but it's just likely to add on to the cumbersome budget issues.

All I'll say is that I have seen very strong evidence implicating two top-level "leaders" who used hard drugs. 'Nuff said. imp

From experience I say having used drugs or alcohol in the past are not enough to not be hired. If something is tried but then not used, no problems. It is when in regular usage that the reasons for hiring are not good.
