Do you swear?

I am very circumspect around clients, friends who I know don’t swear (very few of those lol! ) folks I don’t know well, children (mostly..if their folks swear around them then I do too,) public settings, and you all!! I have an excellent vocabulary and I use it even more extensively when I can’t swear!

Around family I don’t even think about censoring myself because everyone swears!

I think I’ve done an admirable job not letting loose here on the forum, don’t you?

Well quitting was sort of a goal of mine last year. It had gotten pretty darn bad. So. I have reduced swearing by about 90 percent. This is a huge improvement….

Yea, I'm no prude but that's just annoying. In some movies the script writers apparently feel obligated to drop an F_bomb practically every scene.

Very rarely, in fact, if watching a movie or TV series and there is constant "F" word use I turn it off!

Yes, it seems ingrained in me, hard not to. Growing up in the bible belt south I was exposed to very little swearing, my father never did and my mother only rarely. Then when I was 16 we moved west where everyone swore. I caught on very quickly...

@Ronni Rules? There are rules? I only swear at work under my breath, of course, because there are some customers who just have no sense of humor , but aside from that? Like a drunken sailor. There are probably sailors who've never heard of some of the words I use I come by them honestly...learned them at my mother's knee.

You have done superbly Ronni. Lol. I avoid swearing around those who may find it offensive, but, as a therapist who deals with a lot of military, my language is very colourful, indeed. That said, most therapists swear up a storm.

Dear me. Let me clarify my comment about swearing in another language. I am not multi- or even bilingual. I only know the swear words. German works best, but French will do, and I think I even remember a couple of bad words in Polish.

My parents taught me not to swear. But I would say - starting after 55, people really aggravated me and the swearing just began. Yup a lot at home and at work when I did swear (not in front of students or clients though)....my colleagues would say to me, " you look like such a prim and proper lady, I cannot believe you said that." They thought it was really funny.

Yes, I do, but curb it around those with delicate sensibilities. That said, I can tell you where to stick it in four languages.

Swearing to me is like people who smoke…I avoid both
I read somewhere, it’s good for your health…but I prefer fresh fruit and vegetables, a nice steak and a yummy chocolate dessert...

Not too much verbally. Or maybe I do. Mostly it’s at the tv or when I read something that is annoying. Better that I vent mentally than saying what I’m really thinking. BTW, my mind is often going full speed when I read some threads, here and there.
