Do you take anything to maintain healthy bones?

Broken record here: Moving your body, particularly getting weight overhead will make bones substantially stronger and do so quickly. I also take one a day, and eat like a horse.

Excerpted from linked study-

"Mechanical loading is a fundamental factor for bone mass accretion. The principle of the loading phenomenon was first developed by Frost [73] and is also known as the Mechanostat theory. This theory suggests that the bone possesses an inherent biological system to elicit bone formation in response to high mechanical strains, thereby strengthening the bone."

Translated to plain language food, vitamins, and supplements are only the building blocks of bone, the body needs a stimulus to cause bone growth.

Effects of Resistance Exercise on Bone Health

Kiwi fruit, along with berries, citrus and figs provide essential nutrients like Vitamin C, calcium, magnesium, and potassium. These nutrients support bone health by helping to build bone structure, protect against bone loss, and facilitate calcium absorption.

That's a very healthy diet. I eat a lot of Kiwis, berries, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and a can of sardines everyday. I also take vitamin D3 every morning.

I was told by three of my doctors to take Vitamin D or Calcium with Vitamin D. I believe I'm getting enough calcium because I drink almond milk (35% calcium) and eat yogurt (20%) every day. I also eat cheese as well as broccoli a couple of times a week. I slack off sometimes taking my D and now the levels are low again, so I'll have to be more diligent. I take Now Vitamin D chewables that have a peppermint flavor.

If you don't mind my asking, did the medical staff check other parts of your skeleton, or was the scan just limited to the area around your skull?

I don't understand the question. Or the joke?

Bone density scans scan your bone density across your whole body to assess your fracture risk.

Thanks, January! Maybe I should book a scan too and retire from my high-altitude papaya-picking while I still have all my bones intact. After all, gravity isn't exactly bone-friendly.

Had to see my primary doctor for a checkup before cataract surgery on the 19th.
I asked him if people as old as I am can improve the condition of their bones and he just said take fish oil pills and vitamin D.
Been taking the fish softgels that were too big for my wife to swallow and started drinking milk again that is fortified with vitamin D.
The reason why my wife can’t swallow some things is because they went through the front of her neck to get at a couple of things in her C1-C7 area back in Jan. 2022 and there is some scar tissue blockage.

Weight bearing exercises, regular brisk walking, sardines three times a week, broccoli and other raw veggies every day, hearty bean soup and whole grain (homemade) bread dipped in olive oil every day, magnesium glycinate, calcium citrate, vitamin D-3 and K-2.
