I was pretty shy during my years as a child, teen and young adult. My parents would just tell our neighbors I was "reserved".
I went into sales as a career (long story), which taught me how to talk to anyone about anything. Now that I'm retired and have very little contact I will talk to anyone who seems interesting. I find that you can gain insight, knowledge and life lessons from talking to people with experience. It's like in this forum, but in person.
I've been fortunate enough to have traveled around the globe in my career, so if someone starts to talk about travel I will immediately engage. We just came back from a long weekend in Seattle. I was having a great conversation with a flight attendant based in Dallas prior to takeoff. I asked her if she had been furloughed during Covid. I learned about her furlough, where she lived, her 35 years with American Airlines, etc. My Hubby said, "Wow, you have become so chatty. Just don't distract her. She needs to prepare the cabin for takeoff".
An introvert who now welcomes social contact. Who would have thought?
