Do you use senior helpers/aids?

Oh, how I hate those maze aisles! They make me claustrophobic. If there is a way to take a short cut, I do it. I actually enter by way of the cashier which means a lot of "excuse me!" "excuse me!" against traffic, passed the people queued up to pay for their purchases. If someone wants to give me a nasty look then let them but anyone who dares say something to me is asking for trouble.
Inept it sounds like you are creating a lot of your problems yourself.
That's an odd thing to say. Avoiding discomfort, whether physical or mental, seems like preventative problem-solving. But that's just me? If the soft drink fridge is near the check-out cashier (they always are) then I am proud to say that I refuse to run the whole labyrinth just to get there.

I'd have to get the jewelry from the piercing shop and the aid from the medical office. :)

I understand. You don't want to try any of the myriad of OTC hearing devices out there. You prefer to take the medical route. I'm amazed at what I can find at Temu and Aliexpress. That's really why I shared that comment. Even amazing products can be found at Amazon, but I don't use that site anymore. Too many delivery problems and higher prices than Temu/Aliexpress for the same stuff. I've seen some hearing aids advertised on TV that are so small that they are virtually undetectable when placed in the ear. Anyway, I hope you don't need any hearing aid with an exorbitant price tag and that your doctor will not tell you that you need more than you do to hear better. Take care.

Thank you for the good wishes. :) I am allowed one hearing aid every three years under my insurance and I'm hoping for a tiny one, should I need it, which I suspect I will.

Thanks also for the tip about Aliexpress. I am familiar Temu, but had not heard of the other.

Thanks Starsong. Do you think I’d safely be able to cut a hole in the middle for the shower water to drain through?
You don’t need to cut a hole. The water runs through. I bought the same one when @StarSong posted it once before. I rinse it and hang it on the handrail in our shower. It actually feels nice on my feet, imo. I don’t care for those stick-ons. They make it harder to scour the shower floor.

Thanks Jules. I will try and find one like that. It sounds safer than the stick ons.

Glad you also like it, Jules. They make the entire shower floor nonslip, and as you said, they dry quickly when hung up. No mold or mildew problems.

I have what I guess is called a garden hoe left from the property of my deceased parents’ home. It has turned out to be great in reaching for and pulling down unbreakable items from high shelves—I would catch them as they came down. :) And for reaching for and pulling out items deep in next to floor cupboards.

I once tried Grabber Reachers but they just didn’t work for me. I now put items only on eye level cupboards

This is an easy way to get hurt one day.

I use walkin canes but it's to swot teenagers 'groups' who get in my way - I love to hear their yelps as I wack their kneecaps - [not too hard mind!}
This brought back a bad experience. In my 20's, I opened the fast food restaurant door for an elderly woman as we both were leaving. Instead of thanking me, she turned around and began to try to stab my legs with her cane.

She had an angry, hateful look on her wrinkled face. I was caught so unaware that I was just able to move my legs from side to side to avoid her jabs, and she was really trying with vigor.

I forgot about holding the door for her and squeezed past, while continuing to avoid her stabs at my shins. I was surprised that her cane never touched me.

I'm also surprised that I wasn't mad at her and that I wasn't concerned about who saw what was happening and that they could have thought that I did something wrong to her.

Once I squeezed quickly past I walked away. I never even looked back to see if she or anyone else was watching me or if she was trying to cripple along and follow me.

I felt sorry that my kind gesture was met with such malice. I also thought that her mind must be bad and that there was nothing that I could do for her but abandon her.

Some people are truly not happy being old so they tend to take it out on the rest of us. :D
My experience was recently. Thankfully no shin jabbing just the stink eye for holding the door.
You cant win. If you dont hold the door then youre rude. If you do then youre discriminating.
Had to smile. Im 75. I guess I must not have looked old. :D

Im an equal opportunity offender. If I get there first I hold the door for the next person. Male or female.
If someone holds the door thats fine. If they dont thats fine too. :D

"....I opened the fast food restaurant door for an elderly woman as we both were leaving. Instead of thanking me, she turned around and began to try to stab my legs with her cane...."

(Woman: I CAN OPEN MY OWN DOOR! YOU IMPLYIN' I"M OLD?!) 🤣

Yes, but to murder because of that? 😂🤣😂 She probably was stabbing at my legs because she couldn't raise the cane high enough to stab me in the heart! 🗡💔 She was slightly bent...

Do you use senior helpers?

I use the following aids >
Cane (sometimes)
Adult bib (for when I'm in a feeding frenzy 😁 )
Sock aid for putting on sox
Reacher grabber
Bathtub grab bar
Extended nail clipper for cutting my toenails
I use the cane (sometimes), grab bars in the bathroom. a seat in the shower, the grabber (sometimes) and a brace to reduce the hazards that come with drop foot.
