Does a Walker really help? All comments welcome.

👍👍👍 Getting to the place where a person declines physically enough that they need one sucks... but YES a walker/rollator helps me because, due to neuropathy / Cancer treatment side effects, I can't walk without one even around my apartment!! And before it got worse it helped in getting me to my mailbox and the dumpster in my complex. Well worth the money if a person does find themselves physically in need of one.

Waitin patiently for my brand new shiny walker. Amazon indicates its 8 stops away View attachment 373178
I know the feeling, I should be getting my new mobility scooter this coming week!! Enjoy your new Walker!😁👍🥳👍 I've got three of them... Depending on necessity. Had to get a Stander Fold n Go from Walmart or Amazon because the others were too heavy / cumbersome for me to lift into my vehicle. Whatever works to get us more mobile! 👍

Well, just came from getting the mail, did NOT use a walker, just
my cane....and it is very hard on me physically, just the effort
of walking down and back 30 foot approx, so dont know if I'll
try the walker, may be more problem than assist.....getting to
the point I'm nervous about even stepping out......:(
I never found a walker to be any kind of problem just an aid in helping me get around! I'm sure that it's been suggested but there are a lot of videos on YouTube and helping people adjust to their first walker. I never found adjustment necessary but as with everything new, one needs to get used to it. All the best to you. 🙏

I have a walker and a rollator. Both help, but I did fall with them. I am now in a wheelchair for long distances. Otherwise, it's the walker.
Yeah I was surprised when I fell backwards with my rollator, but it was due to a knee jerk reaction from my neuropathy in my feet. 😳 No broken bones just bruised thank goodness, I hope It was the same outcome for you! I hope the wheelchair is working well for you. 🌻🙏

With all the physical therapy I've had over the past year, the wheel chair is history. My rollator is just perfect for me. While my balance isn't what I'd like, I've come a long way. Some of the side effects of my meds cause balance problems, but, I need them, so I used the walker or rollator. They are just fine for my needs.

Just a thought, my mother used to use her wheelchair like a walker/rollator.

She used to put the laundry basket or other items on the seat and then pushed the wheelchair. The wheelchair became her version of an estate wagon or pickup truck.

I love my wheelchair a little too much. Every time I get the flu or twist my knee, I have it brought in from the garage. I can cruise from the computer desk to the kitchen table, even do lots of household chores from it. Once I start to feel better, I ask to have it taken away before I become totally dependent on it.

My Rollator has been a big help. For short distances I use a cane. Today when I went grocery shopping I parked in a handicap spot, used my cane to get to a cart and then used the cart for support in the store. When I got home I used the Rollator to transport groceries into the house... some under the seat, some on the seat and a couple of bags dangling from my arm.

I use the Rollator for appointments unless the parking is very close to the office. I will probably use it more as time goes on.

Yes, Aunt Bea, some of the residents at this facility do likewise, but it is frowned on here as while this is a huge mansion like apartment building, they do tend to run into some souls. But, I can see where it is handy to do so.

I've been working in nursing homes since 1996. I've seen countless residents over the years using walkers. They are very valuable to people who have problems with balance when they walk. Without walkers, there would be elderly people falling everyday. Walkers have become like part of their clothing or shoes. They take them wherever they are going.

If a walker or cane or wheelchair is needed, it’s smart to use it. Better safe than sorry. I won’t walk up or down stairs without hanging on to the railing.

My house is one story, but there are two big steps from the kitchen to the garage, no railing. That's what I fell down 16 years ago, breaking my leg in three places and causing all my troubles. In rehab they emphasized to all of us that every step needs a railing.
