Does any commercial get you upset ?

What is the business aspect? Please share? Are they telling people they have cancer when in fact they don't?

No, not at all....But IMO the push for constant donations is indeed making a business out of the collections. Look at all the specialist businesses for treating cancer that have sprung up......I have voiced my opinion about it, & stand by it.

Ok.. I now understand your point. And you do have a point. I never looked at it in that aspect.

Every profitable disease has its business...seminar........breakthrough.....workshop.....fundraiser.
"Attend this diabetes seminar & learn how to cure your diabetes...it's free. Then comes the proof: Some phony spokesperson says, "I'm no longer diabetic." After the free seminar, you can purchase special diet programs that cure diabetes, diabetic socks, shoes, supplements, vitamins & magic oils.

They will never say those words "you are cured". IMO, there is a cure, they may/may not have found it yet.

Like I said in my first post I believe they can find a cure for Cancer. That's why the commercials about children and adults dying from Cancer upsets me. My Daughter is a Pediatric RN and she has seen more sadness then you can imagine in her job. She worked at CHOP(childrens hospital of Pennsylvania). I donate money to that hospital all the time. They pay for parents to stay at the Ronald Mac Donald rooms so they can be near their children. I still blame the Drug companies for making money rather than finding a cure for Cancer.

A friend of mine just retired from the business office of our local "Children's Hospital" I need to call her anyway, to thank her for the Christmas card. I am going to ask her if there is a direct donations desk there.

Direct donations to Hospitals, and Vet's offices, are much more appealing too me , than to the coffers of some fund-raising organizations .

No. I don't believe they tell people they have cancer when they don't. But they push pricy drugs and treatments (that should be free or cheap) as the only solution. There are many potential treatments for cancer, but they haven't been thoroughly researched or approved by the FDA because it wouldn't bring in enough money for Big Pharma. I'm not saying that chemo doesn't work; it does, but at such a huge price that I personally would rather not do it.

Conspiracy theory, IMO. There is no cure for cancer. There are great examples of arresting it's spread, an example of modern research at its best. Doctors will say "you have no signs of cancer," but they will not say you are cured.
True!! My husband had Cancer....I say that but he is cured so far....Doing well....Goes to Oncologist every 3 month's....probably for the rest of
his life....Never know when it can fire up...… But he has a good attitude....

I don't know if this is what @Aunt Bea was referring to. I also hate the one about the elderly women crying and alone in cold and decrepit rooms in Russia waiting for the woman delivering food to them. You would think they could move them to better housing together and it would be more efficient and cheaper to cater to them that way. The whole commercial is so depressing, and obviously meant to be depressing to tug at our wallets.
And why should we donate to Russia anyway? It's not as if Russia is running short on money. We've got our own people to take care of and our government has the money to do it but doesn't take care of our needy. I would prefer donating to a needy neighbor or family in my community.

It's true what you say about cancer cures. The drug companies would lose out if a cure was found, (as I believe it already has.) All those white coats carrying out experiments on innocent animals would be out of a job. The same with heart research. They use babies and small children to get to you, but they don't tell you where the money really goes.

This year's holiday commercials for Folger's coffee are kind of creepy.

One is Santa stuck in the chimney being poked with a fireplace poker by a couple of kids and the other is of a man surprised by his DIL while he is taking a shower.

About those "donate to" type ads. I may be wrong about this. But it is my understanding is that the TV station or broadcasting entity does not charge a fixed fee for those ads, but gets a percentage of the money donated. These ads aren't the free "PSA" (Public Service Ads). In the old days when all TV ads were over the airways, the TV stations would get a certain percentage of money donated in their broadcast area. I'm not sure how they allot those payments with cable. It's a way to sell the least desirable /valuable ad times.

The ads about over crowded hospitals and elderly being treated wrongly , upsets me ....
