Marie, I use Tahini but I make my own. I like it better than the store bought and it is very easy to make. I do of course use it in Hummus but I also use it in recipes. As it is sesame seed it blends well in some oriental cooking.
If you want to make your own it is very easy but you do need a blender or something similar. I have a tiny food processor that I use for small things. it is simply the seeds, spun to paste then add a little oil to get the texture you want. I prefer the sesame seeds to be de hulled as I find it much smoother but if want the roughage you can use either,, and you can use whatever oil you prefer to blend with, but don't use sesame oil it makes the Tahini too strong. you can toast them a little or not if you prefer.
You can just make a little and don't have to worry about using the bottle up and then your whole hummus is from scratch.
