Does cooking take too long?

I enjoy cooking and cook almost everything from scratch.... however sometimes I find myself resenting the amount of time it takes to make a meal compared to the time it takes to eat it! Do any other cooks feel the same?
Yes!!!!! Most days I enjoy cooking. But I will come up with a recipe and ask myself what was I thinking..it was way too many steps. By the time I finished I was ready for a glass of wine...lol. I have found a few simple recipes. Need to put my Crock Pot to use and let it do the work...lol.

Oh yes, especially for just myself (Daughter not a breakfast person). Several times a week i'll make a midday meal for us both. Easier in winter when i can make roasts (with potataoes, carrots, celery surrounding the meat, simmering in the juices, and stews in crockpot. Those usually provide 2-3 meals for each of us which makes the prep time worth it. I can read or be on line while they're cooking, to we have a convection oven which can reduce the time it takes for roasts, holiday hams.

There should be a law that it takes as long to eat dinner as it does to prepare it. It definitely should apply to Christmas dinner. šŸ˜‰

If I find a recipe has too many ingredients, I scrap it. When the cooking demo on tv show says it only takes a few minutes, they never mention that someone else had to get out the ingredients, chop & measure them, etc.

The time it takes to eat a meal that took hours to make is about savoring the flavors. Fast food places don't make good flavorful food to be enjoyed they make it just as the name implies fast.

To duplicate a fast food burger with fries means shopping for the meat to grind, brining the pickles, making the rolls. Making home made mayo, putting peeled and sliced potatoes into ice water to break down the fiber drying & lightly salting them before air frying. Depending on what I feel like for cheese, melting aged swiss or sharp cheddar is the last step in cooking.

Takes time, but what else is as important than eating what can truly be enjoyed.

Recently, I fell into the clickbait trap of U tube channels with headings like, "If you have two eggs and a potato you'll love this easy recipe". Yeah, if you have two eggs and a potato......plus a grocery store full of other stuff and half a day.
Two eggs and a potato and you can eat a great meal, just oil and some dried herbs and you make a potato omelette :)

Alert! You're about to read over-the-top-crazy LOVE and devotion. You ask, does cooking take too long? I even spend a half an hour preparing the dog's food...mostly fresh homemade.

I make, for the dogs, batches of steamed broccoli chopped, baked sweet potato diced, chopped up rotisserie chicken (I freeze extra), a little canned beef with lentils from Whole Foods, and pour warm low salt chicken bouillon over all in the same bowl. Then I top it with a little half a homemade Peanut Butter cookie...no white flour (instead I use half coconut flour and half almond flour).

They eat it all within a few minutes. But they have no more allergies or health issues. So, it's worth it. Don't worry, I also cook for myself and my family when they visit and holidays.

I love seeing them happy...well worth the effort...but I can't deny that I wish I could just wave a wand.

That was me when I was single

Omelets
Pancakes
BLT's
Salads

Thing is, I never laid the table

Just ate over the sink
Most times outa the fry pan or salad bowl

Saved dishes and time
In those days I didn't hang around much where I slept

Wut?

Yes, I feel the same, and I cooked from scratch, too. There are people in my family who eat faster than the dog does.
