Gosh, I was trying to watch some cable TV news and blam, that’s it, I had to shut it off. SO MUCH HYPERBOLE over current events. So much obsession. Makes me wish for a hurricane or major earthquake so they’d think of something else to cover.

The young, they have never seen the Vietnam War on the news nightly, never seen the shootings of RFK, MLK, or even Reagan. Never saw the 1968 Convention or Nixon resign on air. It’s always shocking when it happens, but it's OK. The person in question is OK now. The other person also did not die - he’s just retiring. IT’S GOING TO BE OK. The system, is designed so it will be OK.

I just want them all to freakin’ MEDITATE once an hour and during commercial breaks. Calm the **** down!

Anyway, I know it’s all Hysteria to get People to Tune In, but Lord I am sick and tired of it.

I think so many of these younger reporters really need to have served a year in Haiti or Venezuela. Then they could see what real internal chaos is.
 

No. What does concern me is the lack of factual teaching of history. Call me old school but I really enjoyed both American and World History. I was and am perfectly comfortable saying the pledge of allegiance, and fully expected my teachers require and enforce discipline. Of course we now know that hiding under our desk was no deterrent for the effects of a nuclear attack I simply realized at the time that it wasn't comfortable.

That might work if the issue is really about one's own exposure. But it's inadequate if one's discomfort stems from others becoming informed.

Once people realize that the emperor has no clothes those who benefitted from the deception start getting really nervous.
 
I am not worried so much as concerned that the future is going to be increasingly difficult for the younger generations to thrive. The climate crisis is the most pressing problem. The increasing heat all over the globe is already causing major climate disasters. It is warming up faster than was predicted, so given 10 years from now, we could really be having problems. That is going to affect everything about the quality of life very soon. Being in my 70's I won't experience that kind of intensity, but the younger generations will. That alone could kick off WWIII as people start fighting over resources. The best I can do is try and get the facts straight and warn them and hopefully find leaders that put wellbeing before profits.

If people are serious about this then why isn't there a call to ban the use of air conditioning? That would go a long way toward curbing the problem, certainly more than mandating EVs which only makes the problem worse.

Other stuff is happening right now but you'd never know it watching American news. They are obsessed with politics. I rarely turn the news on any more. It is just the same stuff over and over. There is no balance.

TV whenever it can go live, has turned to mouths that keep repeating until time runs out and they change hosts to more mouths running off. As long as they are sponsored they keep the maybe dribble stuff a going. Fast cars in the express lane well is that what it's all about. You miss the second half of a game because Weather men can't just keeps saying stuff over and over. Who do you blame if a Tornado hits ?

Then if you pay attention that's what most youth watch. Endless Video of WSTFU!
Then you have forums online that run endless adds. Slick isn't it!

You know in many areas if you open the house around 10 pm / 8 am you can shut off the AC if you have a couple of whole house fans running to bring in fresh air and exhaust the stale hot stuff.

I agree with that, and don't concern myself much about the teenagers & early 20s I see in my community.

OTOH, I read recently that an estimated 1.9 billion trees are being planted each year on our planet. I wouldn't mind at all if young folks got into it.🙂
 
The young will make their own world and set their own destinies. They always do and many are more involved and smart than we think. BF has three grandsons. They're ok.

My grandparents lived through such extraordinary changes and calamities I don;t know how they did it. The technological changes earthquakes, economic depression, world wars, it makes me scream to think of it. But they were always patient and understanding with me. Maybe that's what we should do for the young of this generation. Just be there to support and guide if they want it.
