Does your country love you?

A country loves its citizens collectively. It provides health care and various other things. The citizen must also do their part by loving their country if they are dutifully receiving those things.

"Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country"(J.F. Kennedy)
Totally correct. It works both ways👌💜

Statement:
Immigrants change culture for the better by introducing new ideas, expertise, customs, cuisines, and art. Far from erasing the existing culture, they expand it.

True to some extent, but you risk losing your culture. I love my country but miss the old days when we were naïve and unsophisticated. The ultimate goal of a ‘world melting pot’ has proved to be a dream, not a reality, just my opinion.
I understand your concern. We see changes and it makes us uncomfortable. But, I would suggest that most of the changes have nothing to do with immigration. Think of the effects of the internet. Culture changes due to the change and interchange of ideas and attitudes.

I think the truth is that most immigrants want to fit in and quickly adapt to our existing norms. They want their kids to be real Americans. They appreciate the fact that things are better here than their homeland. At least that’s true for the ones I have known and worked with.

I have neighbors from India, Kenya, Viet Nam, and Guatemala. They are as American as you and I.

A big Thumbs Up for your response. I couldn't agree more on all counts.

The term "melting pot" is a very poor descriptor, at least when it comes to US immigrants.

Our culture has become a rich mosaic with new bits of color and depth being added all the time. My own neighborhood is a perfect example of that. Go two houses in any direction and you'll come across owners who weren't born here. We're all friendly and watch out for one another.

Seems like if one is not rich, powerful or a big corporation, one cannot expect to get much love. There are people who have died for this country....are they or the loved ones they left behind shown love? There are ex military men who's minds and bodies have been adversely affected because of the horrors they saw fighting in wars for the U.S. Upon discharge, how much love and appreciation were they shown? Many can't even get the help they need.
I agree that that is something that needs improving
