Does your retirement budget allow you to travel much?

I'm not retired and so I have no budget. Travel is our middle name.
Having recovered from our winter holidays in the UK and Europe....we're off again middle of April:
UK for the coronation also our niece's wedding.
Then off to Egypt to visit hubby's relatives.
Life is good.

Thank you for sharing your informative article on the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum! We used to live close to D.C. and would visit the Air and Space Museum there often when my late husband used to work in D.C.

Regarding travel budget and travel, I've always loved to travel (Europe, UK, Australia). Covid put a damper on that, but I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Planning a trip usually takes me 1-2 months, plus saving money for it. I don't have plans other than to go to KY for my graduation ceremony and visit the sites around there for the weekend. After that, we'll see.
 

It does but the pandemic slowed me down! In 2019 I took the Amtrak from N.J. to Tampa, Florida to visit my honorary son (HS) and his fiancee. That same year, I spent 3 weeks (not concurrent) at our timeshare in Atlantic City, N.J. and took a 7 day family reunion cruise to Bermuda. With the exception of Bermuda I haven't gone to any other exotic location in a long time, but that's okay. I love being at our ocean front timeshare; my goal is to spend at least 6 weeks a year down there. I plan to visit my HS again someday. I haven't flown in decades and don't intend to so that limits my options.
 
I got a nice check from the Florida Lottery in 2015. I have money to travel, just no desire. I would rather rebuild an engine or even a whole car. I’m limited to what I can do since my accident, but I sometimes do more than what I should just to be brazen.
 
Yes! We’ve done a bit of travelling but nothing outside our country. We like being home for the most part. Luckily people come to visit us. I’ve never been on a cruise and never want to. The only type of travelling I like to do is by vehicle only or small boat rides.
 
Our budget allows for travel, although out-of-country medical coverage is getting a lot more expensive.

We are heading to France, by ship, in less than 2 weeks. We will spend time in Perpignan, Montauban, Cahors, Brive-la-Gaillarde, Clermont-Ferrand and fly back to Canada from Lyon. Hopefully the trains and buses are running.

I am busy trying to pack everything in one carry-on backpack and one small roller bag.
 
I got some of my travel done on driving trips while in college. Then the old saying, Join The Navy And See The World proved to be truer than my wildest dreams. After marriage various trips around the country, and business took me to the Caribbean, Florida, and several times to Houston. In retirement some driving trips and the obligatory Alaska Cruise. Now, not much for me, but an old school friend of my wife was a career stewardess. She can fly just about anywhere for next to nothing and can take my wife along for very little more. I am content to stay home and take care of the animals. (-8

We are approaching the Easter weekend. In the UK Good Friday and Easter Monday are public holidays, giving most workers a four day break. I live about fifteen miles north of a very popular seaside destination that being the towns of Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole.

The road above is the main trunk road to those towns. About thirty miles further back, the traffic from London merges with the traffic from the central part of the country, a place we call The Midlands. That log jam will be in situ from midday on Thursday until very late in the evening. Between four and six pm, local traffic of those trying to get home, will add to the melee. Happy holidays!

that is my domain also @horseless carriage ...i have family in poole , Bournemouth etc , i lived in the new forest for a few years but now reside in devon .....my A30 will be gridlocked , just like your road lol Happy Days LOL

I used to live north of Portsmouth at a point where the A3 from London split - one bit to Southsea and the other to Hayling island. Before the village was bypassed by the A3(M), there used to be a policeman controlling the traffic on Sundays and holidays. The volume of traffic coming from London was horrific. Further east, the traffic to the south coast resorts such as Brighton was equally bad. It's much quieter here in Aberdeenshire.

Very similar to my situation. I have two more international trips planned for this year then I think I'm done. Part of it is due to finances and the other part because my 'travel gene' is worn out (as I posted earlier).
 
Sure I could travel but the question do I want to? Where ever you go it's the same old boring thing. Everyone is sitting or walking or driving and looking at their stupid phones. The addiction is world wide. Then there is the heat, the traffic, the motorcycle noise, the polluted water and the bad food or lack of food. I think I will now stay at home where I can watch everyone staring at their phones for free. Why pay for expensive travel just to see the locals driving their motorcycles and starring at their phones at the same time. Waste of good money, I would say!

it's so sad..but it's really often the truth. Gone for the most part is travelling to see and experience something ''different'' because what happens is you meet up and are surrounded with exactly the same people that you're trying to get away from for a while.. ..and paying a lot of money for it..
