Dollar Tree (or a Dollar Store near you)

will be curious to see what they sell when prices go up. my understanding is it's not just gonna cost more for what was a buck but tht products would be of higher quality. paper/plastic products are generally not a WOW deal. i will occasionally buy chips cuz in smaller bags. that way i will finish them before they get a chance to go stale.

The news is they are going up to 1.25 per item. Not sure which stores will be affected. We have a great one here but I have not been in a little bit. Dollar Tree to me is better than all the rest.

I had seen on the news (initially) that they were going to have higher priced item but keep them in a separate section with the appropriate signage. I wonder if going up 25 cents on everything is an alternative move or if they'll be doing both? @terry123

@Gary O' , it may be hard to let this die out if we keep seeing replies we want to respond to. :giggle:

If I recall correctly, that was the first of its kind.
Maybe 20 years ago (?)
we used to have a 99p store too.. it died, but recently they've opened a chain of ''Onebelow'' stores which are owned by the original Poundland owners, altho' there's not any of those near where I live, the only one that I've been in, in another town , was grubby and messy, so I wouldn't go again.

I have a Dollar General store that opened near an almost dead mall near me. It’s great for when you want to pick up a few items without trekking the miles or paying prestige store prices. It’s not fancy but it’s clean, and the help is friendly. They do carry some brand name goods together with no-name items from places like Poland. In a pinch, you could live out of the place as they carry a few aisles of bread, milk, and other consumables. I can get a box of name brand donuts there for $2 less than what they regularly sell for at the supermarket… 🍩

Our stores here are now $1.25. and some of the goods are well worth buying. A lot of the above mentioned items.
I buy Betty Crocker muffin mix, and various other mixes to bake up. Pears Soap... 2 bars for $1.25, bandaids, varieties of bread may be near due date but stick it in freezer right away and use when I want my tea and toast.
Oh and computer stuff, like printing paper, a little thinner than other varieties but good enough for me. Great stuff for kiddies too.
I just love to go in and wander around ...so colourful and different
Three cheers for Dollar Stores

It's a field day for the little 'uns. "Behave yourselves, and we'll go to Dollar Tree" works every time.

They get to pick 3 or 4 items each and they're good for an hour there. It's actually educational in a way as they have to balance quantity, quality and value ("Is it better to get the package with three small balls or the package with two larger ones? One big coloring book or the package with two little ones AND a couple of markers? )

I love getting two greeting cards for a dollar rather than paying $3.95 for one at another store. Wrapping paper and ribbons are great. Art supplies such as stick-on letters are waaaay cheaper than at the craft store.

I noticed mentions of the price going up to $1.25. I'm happy to pay that if it means the Dollar Trees will stay open. Still a bargain IMO. Here's the disinfectant I like (Country Scent). Looks like it's still selling for a dollar on their site. I'm planning to place an order for a few items and have my grandson or son take me pick them up at our local store. Ordering now will save me money in the long run. I noticed, however, that everything I've searched is sold by the case only.

We have a "Family Dollar" and a "Dollar Tree." I like "Family Dollar," much more because they don't stick strictly to one dollar so they can have slightly better quality. I buy lots of Christmas decor there, things like the big red bow and bell things I hang on the porch chairs every year and throw away at the end of the season.

We buy paper cups.
Dog toys (she loves to un-stuff the cheap ones we buy there.)
Iced oatmeal cookie. Hard as rocks, perfect for dunking.
Yellow liquid for mopping floors.
Carpet powder with a flora scent.
Ponds cold cream.*
Corn brooms.*

*These stores are very good for finding old fashioned things the regular stores don't carry anymore.

I've been looking there for dusters ever since that darn Swiffer business seems to have bought them all up, so we are forced to buy their cheesey version with the plastic holder that scratches the furniture and the lifetime commitment to buying their refills.

I heard about that, but the two Dollar Trees in this area still have everything for $1. Plus tax, of course.
I prefer to shop there for household necessities- from cleaning supplies to soap.
And surprisingly, the bathroom tissue (toilet paper) they sell for a dollar is better quality than the products sold in the grocery store at much higher prices.

Shoppers and staff at the Dollar Tree at 2485 Notre Dame Blvd. in Chico had quite a shock Monday morning, Jan. 31, 2022 when a green Honda CRV came crashing into their store.

At approximately 11:34 a.m. the vehicle, driven by an older adult, crashed through the west side of the building, through an emergency exit and brick wall. The car continued its momentum down the greeting card aisle, traveling most of the way through the store until finally stopping. Customers reported running from the vehicle but fortunately there were no injuries. The store is expected to reopen, pending investigation and construction. (Melissa Joseph — Chico Enterprise-Record)

The reading glasses in the dollar-type stores are reasonable. The price varies from $4 to $7, still cheaper than other places. It was my optometrist who told me it was ok to shop there.

Did the driver say "Hey, I think I'll run into the Dollar Tree for a minute..."

Prefer Dollar General to the others Toilet cleaner, some vanilla wafers or gingersnaps, calendars, greeting cards, but only once every couple of months

In my area the Dollar Tree sells everything for $1.00. The Dollar Store, Family Dollar and Dollar General all have reduced price items. Five Below is another outlet type store that sells everything for….you guessed it!…$5.00 or below!

If I need a food or a household item to be good quality and/or hold up over the long haul, as a general statement I don’t buy from these stores. The exceptions are decorative items because they’re not actually used, just put on display. I’ve gotten all kinds of things for my kitchen, bathroom, living room as we’ve remodeled and redecorated, that don’t look cheap but are inexpensive and perfect for our decor.

For example, These were all gotten at different times from the Dolar genera a couple blocks from where I live

From the Dollar Tree I buy containers for organizing purposes, (drawer organization etc) cheap plastic containers with lids as to-go containers for family dinners so I can send everyone home with food, gift wrap, tissue paper, ribbon etc and seasonal decorations that I throw away after use (window cling gels, paper signage, plastic tablecloths etc)

I'm always getting Dollar General and Family Dollar mixed up, have been in both locally, years ago.
One thing I noticed was products were grubby, like they never cleaned the stores.
Also, though, I found some items actually cost more than in regular stores! A few years ago, for example, I went to one to buy a tablecloth.. and later found one of better quality and lower price in Target.
