Drought in California

A few years ago Florida and Georgia, USA, were in drought. It just changed places.

Grocery prices in the USA are going to go way up.

the delta smelt was at the center of this problem years ago. believing it was going extinct a judge ordered the water supply to the valley shut down to protect it

it was quite a brawl between farmers and politicans. I never heard if this was settled or not. I never understood why they never used desalination of the Pacific ocean. an unlimited water supply. expense??

Hubby and I have just finished watching a 12 hour documentary called The West that covers the exploration and colonisation of what are now western states of the United States. I was impressed with the engineering works that captured a whole river and diverted it to LA (?). It involved massive pipe lines and a lot of tunnelling through mountains to bring water to a desert region.

Perhaps that is at least part of the answer to the drought problem. We are trying to populate and farm deserts and it is not viable in the long term.

I am in Northern California and we have been in a drought for a few years now. Been through several in my lifetime. This next year we will no doubt get torrential rains that will cause flooding and mudslides. It`s more common for us to have drought conditions years or heavier than normal rainfall years than it is to have "average" rainfall years. We live on the largest natural lake in California-I have seen it much lower than it is right now.

Today we drove up north and passed another lake nearby. A few months ago,it was virtually dried up,but today, while very, very low,was not nearly as bad as it was a few months ago. We all pray for rain during these years but then when we finally get rain again,we pray that we won`t flood.

Believe it or not. The Fen as been in drought for around five years.
We live in the driest County and also the wettest
