I get a letter in the mail from my GP....It say's that he is no longer accepting Anthem BC/BS Ins . He provides a list of others that do. And two of them....are right there in his office [building] ?

Anthem is one of the [if not the] largest providers in the business....He? is dropping them? and patients covered under them ?

Of course I called the office,& also of course got the expected run-around....Non one knows why, knows anything ?!

Anyone ever experienced this ? Or similar ?

Yes. I used to be a patient at Kelsey-Seybold clinic in Houston, until they stopped accepting AETNA insurance. I was flummoxed, but life went on.

I have been going to the same doctor for the last 20 years (PPO)... he was pretty young when I first started at his clinic and I have watched his family grow up in pictures that are placed around his desk. When I decided to retire I asked him if he took Medicare patients and he told me "no, but since I was an established patient of his he would accept me".

So in other words, "I don't have to work with you if I don't want to"... no, he didn't say those words but that is what I was thinking as I walked out of his office. It's a frustrating business to wade through and I'm sorry you got caught up in it.

It can happen to any one of us at any time.

rgp: So you are not Medicare? I have straight Medicare and it works very well for me and helped me thru hip replacement surgery and the hospital/rehabs with knee.

I carry nothing else. But my supplmenets. and Dr. Google.

Yes I'm Medicare as well. But my primary provider is Anthem BC/BS

We should have a system like you have in Canada. Unfortunately we don't.

It's far from perfect. The big difference is not requiring to buy insurance. Well we do in a way buy insurance because it comes from our sales and income taxes.

At one time we did buy insurance coverage for doctor's care and it was administered by the doctors.

This is a very complicated issue and Canada has 30million population and the U.S. with 300million+ just for starters.

Countries in Europe with social medicine are all low population as well.

Maybe moving to Canada is the answer for some.

We lost our primary care doctor a few months ago. He got himself in a pickle letting another doctor work for him who didn't have a license in this state. We could continue in his group but really aren't happy with those other doctors. My hubby has to find someone else. I have no medical problems right now and last month went to one of those in and out medical emergency places for a minor problem. I was so pleased. I didn't even have to pay a co pay, had an X ray and was out in a little over an hour. The doctor was really nice,I wasn't rushed and AARP paid as well as medicare. I ended up paying $8.00 out of pocket. Of course I realize if you have an going chronic problem I'm not sure they will take care of that but as long as I can remotely figure out my problem I'll use this service again.
