Drum Circle: Let's Make Some Noise!

PEACE DRUM.jpg

Like a child, I wanted to bang on something. I wanted to make some noise and be heard.

I removed my Ocean Drum from the sound healing table. The tiny beads rattled as I set it on my knee, imagining the ebb and tide of ocean waves.

I closed my eyes and listened to the planet. I heard the cries of devastation. I heard the cries of pain. Nothing in the outside world made sense and I had to find my balance. I had to raise my frequency.

But first, I needed to ground myself by releasing my grievances as a form of prayer, beating once for each syllable and emphasizing the word Stop:

Stop_the_an-ger

Stop_the_vi-o-lence

Stop_the_night-mares

Stop_the_greed-i-ness

Stop_the_ly-ing

Stop_the_bick-er-ing

Stop_the_steal-ing

Stop_the bul-ly-ing

Stop_the_ha-tred

Stop_the_suf-fer-ing

Peace..

Peace...

Peace...

Peace...

After drumming my prayer over and over, I felt much better. My coping mechanism hurt absolutely no one. There were no weapons or threats involved.

The planetary scene has been stormy (to say the least) and I long for the sunshine. Fortunately, I have discovered a great stress reliever in drumming. It is a powerful spiritual tool for grounding, a link to the heartbeat of the earth.

I invite you to join this Drum Circle. You don’t even need a drum, you can bang on a hardcover book or a table. And the pattern can be as simple as a steady rhythm of 60 beats per minute. Or you can drum a prayer as I did.

The important thing is to pour out your heart with every drum beat. All your anger, your worries...

You must be the noisy so and so that's keeps me awake at night. 😊

Drum circles are supposed to be a great male-bonding thing...very primal, very tribal. Brings it all to the surface and let’s it all hang out, almost as good as the swing-styled playing that I’m into. Unfortunately I’ve never had the opportunity to join a drum circle, although I do play a little myself…
