Eider Ducks in flight

The Common Eider is the UK's biggest and fastest flying duck. When I was a lad we went on holliday up to North East coast to see them. Now there's a good population here around Morecambe bay! Two pairs at high tide today. The down off the female's breast is used to make Eiderdown blankets.

Two females leading two male past me at high tide today.

lovely photos... but were you living in the North west where you are now, when you were a kid?...I'm thinking going across to the North East for a holiday would have been very close..lol

North West when I was a kid yes - but between Liverpool and Manchester. About a 4hr drive to the NE coast where we went to see Eider :)
