Eight Children Dead In Louisiana Through Domestic Violence

Two women were also shot but survived. From KSLA News 12:

"Officials said they’re still gathering details about the crime scene, which extends across four locations. The four locations include two homes in which gunshot victims were found, the scene of a carjacking in which the suspect reportedly stole a car, and the scene where the suspect was shot dead in Bossier City."

Here is the link from NBC. I haven't read through the whole article yet, but it appears that there were two separate shootings.

Mass Shootings
I just read it in the news.... this is absolutely horrendous!..... what a terrible thing to happen...

At least 10 people were shot, and eight juveniles including a baby

At least 10 people were shot, and eight juvenile victims died after the Shreveport Police Department was called just after 6am to reports of a domestic disturbance involving the suspected shooter, Shamar Elkins, 31.

The youngest victim in the unfathomable tragedy was 18 months old, and the eldest was 14 years old.

Shamar Elkins (picutred center) , 31, allegedly opened fire early Sunday morning in Shreveport, Louisiana, killing eight young children. Police have yet to confirm the identities of the children killed

Some of the children killed were 'descendants' of Elkins, police said, without providing further details.

Two adult women survived the bloody incident after being shot in the head, meanwhile a young boy who was also at the home when gunfire erupted was seen jumping from the roof in a bid to escape the attack, KTBS reported.

The horrific ordeal unfolded across three different locations. The first, 300 block of West 79th Street near Linwood Avenue, was where the children were massacred in a home just a stone's throw away from a Baptist church.

Elkins then performed a carjacking at that location and led officers on a high-speed chase, traveling a quarter-mile away to Harrison Street, between Wallace Avenue and Bernstein Avenue.

He then drove to the third location, in Bossier Parish, on Brompton Lane near Long Acre Drive. He was shot and killed by police there.

The crime scene was described as 'rather extensive' by police spokesperson Christopher Bordelon. 'We do believe him to be the only individual that fired gunshots at these locations here,' he added.

Another case of a divorce or break up and mindset of all or nothing. 'If I don't get what I want nobody will." Which unfortunately includes children.

At this point anytime I see married or couple murders that includes the spouse, kids and/or self somebody probably started talking divorce or break-up. Sore entitled losers to say the least.

RIP those killed especially the children who never had a chance.

I am always shocked when I hear of violent acts against children. One of my best people watching endeavors is seeing parents and their children in public settings. You can sense the strength of their family unit with very simple acts. I especially like to see the very young children because they are so open with their expressions. Our whole family dout on the little ones in our family and share bonds that don't end as they grow into their own personalities. No matter the age of our children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren I still see the baby traits that really never leave.

The most dangerous time for women escaping abusive relationships and coercive control is when they make an exit. The men who choose violence will hurt their former partners anyway they, this is an extreme example of such hurt.
I don't want to try to guess at the cause of this tragedy, but the info you stated is accurate.. and I've also heard of a couple of situations in which individuals murdered their own small children because they resented being required to pay child support.. 😢

I have seen dead children and also attended their funeral. It’s absolutely heartbreaking. Why adults feel it necessary to kill a children to settle a domestic dispute is beyond my understanding. It’s bad enough when a child is killed accidentally, but when it’s intentional, that’s a sure way to end up on death row. People have very little to zero tolerance when it comes to harming a child, let alone 8 of them.

You're the type of person this country needs more of..

From what I gather...
~His wife was divorcing him. Maybe she threatened to stop visitation with his children.
~He's a former national guardsman
~He had a history of mental health issues. I wonder if that's why his wife wanted to divorce him.
~He had priors which should have prevented him from being able to buy a gun.
~Latest reports say there were signs of the darkness to come.

Elkins posted a photo on Facebook of himself smiling with his children over Easter. The seven kids, in pink-and-white striped sweaters and blue polos, stood on either side of him.
“Had a wonderful time at church for the first time with all my kids what a blessed day,” he wrote.

But four days after posting the Easter picture of his family, he reposted an inspirational prayer from another Facebook page that began, “Dear God, Today I ask You to help me guard my mind and my emotions.”

This is a horrible tragedy that I'm sure has shaken the entire town. Those poor innocent babies (yes I call them that until they reach full adulthood) had their whole lives ahead of them. The man that should have been protecting them murdered them and it's unfathomable. Now the agony of having to bury them. I'm sure a Go Fund Me will be set up, if not already, to at least help with the cost. I can't even imagine the depth of the grief those mothers must be feeling right now! 😭😭 May the children rest peacefully in Paradise.

If I can't have you all, no one can and you can't have my kids.
Child support, not an uncommon reason for a motive.

And so on.

The other one is how many kill a woman they got pregnant or the woman and fetus.

They don't want the woman, they don't want a child, they don't want to be tied to them forever, etc. But that didn't stop them from making the baby did it...

I follow a bit of crime and I've seen it so many times. I hadn't looked at this one yet but did see the headlines about it.

Also these days there is every excuse in the book they try to use as a defense and usually involves some type of oh they were dealing with this or that mental health issue, alcoholism, drug use, weren't in their right mind, etc. but as much as sentences have gotten more lenient, too much so UNTIL maybe they do the worst thing like this, generally only true insanity is a defense for murder, no matter how all the other things are attempted as an excuse.

It's hard to wrap one's mind around someone who could do something like this. I don't know how most ever can, I know I can't. Never have been able to.

It has happened in Holland a few times, that a dad killed his kids. The comments on the News site sometimes. One guy's new girlfriend stood up for him. His nasty ex wife wouldn't give him his kids. And then people go along with it. She had a very good reason to protect her kids. He proved it.

The other guy drove his car in the water with his kids in the back. She had already warned the police. They came to check and said it was fine. Guy was agressive, drunk and had told her something was about to happen, but apparently, what one guy in the comments said, his wife works there and they have non stop false accusations from exes and now they dismissed a real one.

The comments in the Newspaper. She should have given him his kids! Her fault!
Or indeed the utterly irritating 'oh this poor person must have felt so bad or had whatever psychological problem.' Shut up. I got crazy myself when my ex said he would get the kids, but I only tried to kill myself. You don't kill your kids, no matter how insane you feel. They put me on wrong meds that caused a psychosis.

It's too common. Maybe not common, many, many would never do such a thing but we sure hear it all of the time.

In any case I watch, there will be people in comments saying I'm autistic or I have bipolar or I have this and that problem but I have NEVER killed anyone nor ever would. They are excuses imo pure and simple.

I get exactly what you mean. And of course I can believe getting meds wrong can cause issues. It does seem every case though I see lately, there's some excuse but it's probably because there really IS NO defense for what that person just did.

And to your other things, it is like restraining orders which is always said is only a piece of paper. Generally the people they are needed against are NOT going to follow such anyhow...

Again there are just so many... That one in FL here... Just awful. She knew. She told the courts. She stayed with her dad and her kids prob because of the ex... I can't recall all but she ended up dead I believe, the neighbor who let her in ended up dead, her dad ended up dead if I recall correctly. Their young daughter was running after them down the street... She had said it. She had tried. She had asked to be protected. The cops are under fire about that one actually because there had been other issues or incidents they let go or did not do anything about or something like that...

I truly believe still most of the people in this world are good but it seems to get more and more where life isn't valued except one's own...

I've never talked to anyone from Holland I don't think and I'm always interested in learning about other countries. The different everything, justice systems, foods, ways, you name it.

I also very rarely hear about crime from there where ours in the US tend to be blasted all over world news. The big ones anyhow...

Records show that Mr. Elkins had at least two prior convictions, including for driving while intoxicated in 2016 and for the illegal use of weapons in 2019.

In a police description of the March 2019 incident, an officer wrote that Mr. Elkins pulled a 9-millimeter handgun out of his waistband and shot at a vehicle five times after the driver of the car had pulled a silver handgun on him. One of the bullets Mr. Elkins shot was found near a school where children were playing outside.

Earlier this month, on Easter Sunday, he called his mother, Mahelia Elkins, and his stepfather, Marcus Jackson. Ms. Elkins and Mr. Jackson said in interviews that their son sounded despondent. They said they could hear his children playing in the background during the call.

Mr. Elkins told them through tears that he wanted to take his own life. He told Mr. Jackson that his wife wanted a divorce, and that he was drowning in “dark thoughts.”

“I told him, ‘You can beat stuff, man. I don’t care what you’re going through, you can beat it,’” Mr. Jackson said. “Then I remember him telling me: ‘Some people don’t come back from their demons.’”
