Electronic Chip For Convicts?

I can't believe that it is taking so long to capture the two escaped cons from the upstate New York prison. If all newly incarcerated prisoners were imbedded with a simple electronic chip they could be tracked within and without the prison. It would not be expensive nor invasive.

You mean microchipping? Like dogs.. ?? Do you imagine an escaped inmate leaving that little doohickey in? That would be the first thing they would carve out of one another.... don't ya think?

Depends on where the chip is placed. If they had to swallow the chip that would be interesting or imbedded in the inner ear canal.

Oh swallowing it would certainly make sense.. All the little chippie things in the sewer system would be interesting. The inner ear? I thought torture was frowned upon.

The biggest concern I see with convicts, is that occasionally, it is found that an individual has been illegally incarcerated: not guilty of the charges, through DNA or other reasons. Such a "convict" would surely have air-tight litigation available, possibly on Constitutional grounds, for having been "chipped".

No easy answers, but I personally oppose the idea. imp

Did you catch this quote from SiFuPhil's link?

Cybernetics scientist Dr Mark Gasson of the University of Reading, in Britain, became the first human to be infected with a computer virus, after he injected himself with a microchip in 2009 to control electronic devices in his office. The virus was replicated on the swipecards of staff accessing his building and infected the university's database.

So the old joke about catching a computer virus in not a joke anymore. :eewwk:

I would have it imbedded in the bone and not one that could be lopped off and lived without. How about the spine?

It would certainly help locate these cons. Law enforcement doesn't really seem to have a clue.

Good idea Lon.
