Emojies - Get no pleasure from them

I love them they always make me laugh, I fell out with an online friend once and we made up purely by using emojis !

No words were posted, it started with an emoji waving then a question mark, shrug, bunch of flowers, sorry etc. and ended with a kiss :D
 

When communicating, both in person and over the phone, you can more easily discern a person's meaning through body language, facial expressions and tone of voice. Emoji take the place of those things when you can't see or hear, and help ensure you're not misunderstood.

I think the use of emoji is dependent upon how much you text/email. I do a lot of both, so the use of emoji becomes a way to more easily communicate intent and emotion.
 
I think they come in pretty handy......because folks can't see your facial expression, hear your tone of voice or see your body language sometimes what you peck on one of these things can be taken be taken out of context or misinterpreted but if you stick in a couple of them emoji thingies here and there folks have a better idea of what your actual feelings are about what you pecked.
 
I guess it makes a difference too if you are a texter, I'm NOT. Will leave this planet NOT texting I can almost guarantee that one. Most older folks for the most part like to talk on the phone to communicate with a friend ..... and I'm a lot older than MANY here.
 
I use LOL and emojis to indicate that I find or intend something to be amusing. Olivia stated my reasons perfectly.

They're often quite adorable, and most of us can use all the adorable we can find in this life. :fun:

There are no emoji rules; if you don't like them then just don't use them.

My pet peeve about texting is the shortcuts people take, like it's so much harder to type "you" than "u". :rolleyes: (And don't get me started on "prolly.")
 
No one is talking about rules, it's like or dislikes and as I see it the tech world has much so much more people issues impersonal...I am glad I have my computer as I do a lot of research for my health and there is a lot I do enjoy, but social graces...ummmmm

And the u and the prolly issue what ever that means, is all from the texting world.

I was a shorthand queen growing up and that's another issue from my very early life.

I don't hate it, I just never found a place in my life for it. Nothing in my life is that urgent that I have to text another person in my life. I have NO urgency for anything when I look at my life.

Most of my friends are all older and have gotten to where they don't LOVE to talk on the phone that much and texting???? The young generation is out there texting and just about when I was young I was on the phone all the time...remember those days?

I agree also. I mainly use the smile to show I'm joking or being friendly.

Speaking of text contractions, can you read this?

It's an amateur radio QSL card from 1935. Morse code led to many contractions. Here's a translation:

Remarks: Your signals sure fine business. Thank you many times for nice contact and will hook up again. I may go a step further and put in low power. Ha Ha. Next time you're out here be sure and drop in. ? ? best wishes again.

Amateurs exchange these cards after making contacts. Contractions are nothing new. Why use fer instead of for? An e is . an o is ---.

Relax a little and think about what you do like rather than what you don't. I sense stress here. Emotis and texts are not the most important things in the world. Let the anger go maybe. Just float it away. It must matter to you or you wouldn't have started a thread about it, right? Peace - Chic.

You have no idea about my stress or non stress. At 80,. I've done a lot of work on de stressing. Thanks Chic and I don't know why some of you think I'm all stressed and worried with these emojies...I could really care less.

I'm the one who gets no shingles or vaccines as I know about de stressing. Thanks.

How many of you grew up learning Gregg shorthnd? I still use it when I make notes for myself.

I think emoji's are cute. My daughter uses them all the time so I'm used to seeing them. jaminhealth my Mom was very good at Gregg shorthand and a friend of mine recently retired from an excellent job as secretary to the president of our local hospital. The reason she got the job was because of all that applied only she knew shorthand.
