End of US Crude Oil Export Ban Is Possible...Good Thing or Bad?

I heard some people on the radio talking about this. They were saying the ban should stay in place, that we could be self-sufficient if we didn't ship out our crude oil to other countries, and it would make us less dependent on dealing with countries in the Middle East for oil. Also, they were saying that if we started to ship out our supplies of oil to other nations, our cost for gas and oil would only go higher in the US. This makes sense to me. I don't think that ban should be lifted at all. What are your thoughts on this? More here.

Analysts often note that the debate around the crude oil export ban is extremely complicated — a point emphasized by the fact that while domestic oil production in the United States has risen sharply since 2009, by more than two million barrels per day, projections show that American imports of foreign oil will continue at a rate of six million to eight million barrels per day through 2040.

This is largely because of differences in the types of crude oil, with excess amounts of light, sweet crude being produced in the United States while domestic refineries are designed to handle heavier, sour crude from abroad.

I think Congress will do the right thing..... the right thing for the profits of the Oil Companies... not for the US consumer. I'm sure there are a few campaign contribution "debts" to be paid.

But I thought that we elected them to do their best for us. We learned that in Civics class...

Don't forget the daily brainwash AKA "The Pledge of Allegiance" ...

I'm a big fan of isolationism so you probably can imagine my answer to this oil business ... besides, if we had invested in alternative technologies as we should have we wouldn't have such a grand problem.

As a consumer I would want anything to secure a supply of oil and keep prices in check. As a ruthless capitalist if it's legal I would want to be able to sell it. But an export ban might "encourage" more drilling and exploration again good and bad.

My granddaughter's husband works in the oil fields, they are building a new house next to me....I just hope they do whatever it takes so that he can keep working.
