Enter At Your Own Risk

Irrigation is all set up and running. There is one connection that comes apart too easily that needs tweaking but that's no big deal. While pulling those heavy 100'L 3/4" hoses around, I pulled something in my elbow and now that arm is almost worthless. This has happened before. It will heal.

I just have to figure out what can be done in the meantime.

For starters a cup of coffee. Then let inspiration come to you.

Yep. It was inevitable that now that the irrigation is up and running, heavy coat/mittens/hats put away...last night it snowed, only about an inch so far. Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until midnight tonight above 8000 ft. "Total snow accumulations between 6 and 12 inches with locally higher amounts up to 16 inches." 7200 ft here. Low temps next two days predicted 30F, high 45-50F. We are usually a few degrees below those numbers. Hope the hoses hold up. They are very heavy duty. My body tells me there is no way I will be able to get out there and drain everything right now. Fingers crossed.

Well, ignore what the body says and just do it. Disconnected hoses, etc. All the water coming from the two main lines is running downhill into the creek. Nothing I can do about that. It comes from that same creek uphill from me so not being wasted, just detoured, lol. Now I don't have to worry about it.

About an inch of snow in the last 24 hours, 26F this morning. Today, I hope to go to the nearest Home Depot about 50 miles away. I ordered a set of Milwaukee tools, along with an extra battery. The battery is bad, won't charge at all so it will be exchanged today. Will also stop at UPS on the way to drop off a package.

Cigarette cravings have become strong again. Apparently, this is common at about 100 days, which is now. I am down to the lowest dose nicotine patch (7 mg) with about five days left on that. I don't think this craving is nico related; it is behavior related. Caving in is NOT a choice. Boredom doesn't help; it will warm up in the next couple of days and there will be lots to do again.

This lower back/right side pain has become a constant companion. Maybe it's time to see a doctor. I doubt there is much that can be done, maybe some PT? But I would like to know exactly what it is.

Today, the last nico patch will be removed. I doubt it will make much difference. Consider all of that Done. The good news is that weight gain is mostly under control, with about a pound gained. I can handle that.

The weather has warmed back up to 40-60F's. All the irrigation lines are reconnected and running. I have been doing less hard, physical labor, hoping some of the aches and pains will go away. It is easing; I wonder if that's the best that can be. Anyway, this has allowed time to catch up on domestic chores (cleaning/laundry/errands). One more errand today, then will resume outdoor work, at a slower, lighter pace. That's the plan.

Sounds like you got things pretty much under controll:>)

Great!

48 hours without the nicotine patch. It does seem like the cravings are more frequent and stronger. I don't know if it's because of the absence of all nicotine or if it's just some phase to get through. 7 mg of nicotine over 24 hours, which is what the Step 3 patch delivers, doesn't seem like very much. The one time I really miss having a smoke is when I take a break during work. The urge then is such that I just don't take a break, which is probably not such a good idea.

Yesterday, I did do some more clearing of leaves/brush, pruned some dead tree limbs, and a few small dead trees. There is one tree, rather large, that has a large-ish broken branch hanging down that I can't reach. Maybe the long pruning tool will reach it. I do not want to use a ladder. Getting one back there would be a challenge. I have to think about this, maybe think of a safer solution. Or just ignore it and let nature do it's thing.

The area that I had designated as "do this year" should be finished today. There is a small area on the opposite side of the path that I am tempted to start. Several small areas could use a little attention. This could go on forever. I enjoy doing it (mostly), which is surprising, because I have never been one to "garden" but it beats sitting around inside doing nothing. I have to be careful not to cause my back to seize up. Slow and steady.

Didn't get a lot done yesterday. Weather turned yuck, cloudy and windy and chilly. Gathered and covered tools and quit after filling only three bags. Today looks about the same.

The footbridge across the little creek isn't wide enough for the new wheelbarrow. I have materials to build a new one so maybe that is what I will do. If not today, then soon.

We all have a slow day from time to time. We had our annual rainfall in a week. Every time I look out to the swamp the weeds grew a foot.

So now it's been over a week since any nicotine has touched your pure clean body at all!

I wish we could have a big celebration. We could all go to your house and clear underbrush for a while and then have an outdoor picnic with you and the dogs.

I'm doing it in my head.

I would go for that!

The last few days have been busy.

I decided to try raising a few vegetables. I ordered five grow bags, bought four bags of appropriate soil, two tomato plants, a Japanese eggplant plant, a red cabbage plant, some candy onion starts, and a package of green bean seeds. The grow bags should be delivered today. If it's early enough, I will transfer the plants into them, otherwise tomorrow. Planting the onion starts and green bean seeds will be a challenge, as to "where"?

Since it is still in the high 30's/low 40's at night, I am going to try something another person said she does. She places her container plants in a wagon and brings them into the house at night until it warms up. Gonna give that a try. It will help with night time temps and deer. Maybe have to get another wagon or use one of the old wheelbarrows? Once they get too big to drag around, will have to do something to protect against deer eating them.

The remainder of the old barn is still back there, waiting for the guy to finish hauling it away. He says probably next weekend. Meanwhile, I have been cleaning up the (dirt) barn floor area. What a Mess! Several old moldy straw bails, old rugs covered with a few inches of dirt, the list goes on. I have about 12 bags of debris. The smell was awful; very moldy, very strong. Some of the worst dirt was actually relocated to an old burn pile. Maybe some day I will burn it or just let it degrade into the ash pile. You can bet I wore a good mask, gloves, and safety glasses.

I raked it all relatively smooth and hope the sun will do the rest. It still has the concrete border upon which the walls were built. That will stay for now. This might actually be a really good place for a garden; I doubt anything will grow there this year and maybe not next and I am not too sure I would eat anything grown there anyway. Give it a couple years of sun and snow and maybe have the soil tested? I am too old to plan that far ahead.

Yesterday, I caved in and built the little bridge across the tiny creeklet. The old one was in pretty bad shape and it wasn't wide enough to get my Guerilla Cart across. I was planning on using some of the lumber from the barn teardown but there wasn't enough. Went to the local lumber yard, eight 2x4 pressure treated boards. It's all put together, 36"W x 72"L. I ended up having to dig out some large-ish rocks but that was easier than expected. Now, I want to build a ramp leading onto it and also onto the bridge crossing the large creek. Will go back to the lumber yard today.

The grow bags were delivered and they appear to be very good quality. Hopefully, the four seedlings will be planted in them today. If not, then tomorrow for sure (I hope). I want to use the garden wagon to bring them into the house at night but it has a flat tire (the wagon, not the house). The lumber yard sells those wagons so will see if they have the tube or whatever to fix it.

Need the ramps to use the bridge(s), need the bridge to use the wagon, need the wheel to use the wagon, need the wagon to move the plants. All of this just to grow a few tomatoes. Now I remember why I have never done much gardening, lol.

Your cabbage should be fine outside. Can you keep the others close to a window for a week or two or are they rootbound?
They are all placed in a south facing window right now. I don't think they are rootbound yet.

I did get one foot bridge ramp built today. It took a while to figure out what/how to build it. Now that that is done, the rest should be easier, although they are all different in length, angle, height. At least the configuration can be the same. The finished one actually turned out pretty good. The weather turned colder and windy so I quit for the day. One down, three to go (two bridges). It has also rained and rain is forecast for the next few days.

It has occurred to me that if I require a scooter or electric wheelchair in the future, these ramps will be a very good thing! Thinking maybe I should add a "lip" to the edges to prevent going off the edge; not sure how to mount that. Something to think about.

That may not be a bad idea. Anti slip strips?

Great Minds and all of that. I have to get to the hardware store tomorrow. Will pick up some of that.

Today was wet and chilly, off and on with sunshine, so I decided to change out the tube in the flat tire on the wagon. Got the wheel off but breaking the bead wasn't my thing. Neighbor came over and we ended up taking the wheel apart. All fixed. Except the other three are going flat very quickly. It's an old wagon. So tomorrow I will go back and get three more tubes, if they have them.

I did transplant the four seedlings into the grow pots today, and planted some of the onion starts. Then the 60 degrees F suddenly dropped to 48F and the Japanese Eggplant started looking wilted so I brought them all inside and set them on the cabinet against that south facing window. They all look okay for now. I think they need more sun, though. Fingers crossed as cloudy and rain forecast for the next few days.
