he turned from a little cute sweet...pooch to a snarling monster if we tried to take anything off him...
Lol, same thing here. At one point, the mouse was underneath the baseboard heater, which is very close to the floor, an inch maybe? She was digging so vigorously at that heater to get at the mouse that I was afraid she would rip it off the wall. There was no stopping her.

She spent the rest of the day on patrol. No luck finding another one.

I have considered getting a cat but just don't want to deal with the litter box and shedding and if it manages to get outside, it's lifespan would be greatly shortened. Neighbors have outdoor barn cats; we are on their route.

I know, its amazing how Mad they go when they go after prey.... I couldn't believe this tiny thing could turn into such a predator... lol

I'm sure he was a much better mouser than any cat...

Same with my daughters' Dobie... in the mountains where she lived, she had a big barn where the rats and snakes would get into... even with the big metal door closed.. Zeus would know if the rats were in there, and he'd be outide trying to get in...

My bossy, meddling, know-it-all sister has arranged a family reunion to be held here in July. Most will stay at a B&B across the road; my favorite sibling, her husband and 22 YO son will probably stay with me, which I will enjoy. Most of the gathering will probably be at the B&B; it is large and well-appointed. There will be lots of alcohol which always leads to mean, pointed remarks which are "just jokes" or "well, it's true, you know". I am thinking of ways to spend as little time as possible with them.

I have an idea...you let them all stay in your house and you go to the B & B. LOL! What is it they say in that stupid Dominos commercial? Treat Yourself!!

Nothing is ever as simple as I think it's going to be. The upstairs hall baseboards and door trims were on the list to be painted. When I was taping around them, I noticed the bottom 2-3 feet of the door frames were nicked, gouged, and just generally a mess. I patched them up, then let it dry overnight. Sanded them yesterday and now they are ready to be painted, which will be today. They are not perfect but they are...GoodEnuff. The prep work is the hardest part.

Finally got myself in gear! Finished the hall, then realized the bathroom baseboard and door jamb look pretty crummy next to the newly painted stuff. So did that, too. That half of the house is Finished!

I ordered a barrel chair for the Summer Room. It had to be small which greatly narrowed choices. It was delivered yesterday and looks really good. Unfortunately, I'd rather sit on the floor than that chair. It's awful! Now I remember why I never buy chairs/sofas without sitting on them first. Oh, well. It'll do for now.

Tomorrow, a helper is coming to move stuff back into place and to relocate the walking pad into that new room. The sitting room where it is now is next on the list. More painting and some trim work around a window. Should be doable in a couple of days.

Helper is scheduled to be here at 10:00 to put things back inside where they belong post-reno. I will have to move the car out of the garage because it will be in the way of bringing things in. I will be so glad to have this finished.

10:00 came and went. Note that this helper lives next door. I txt'd him about 10:10 am, no answer. Started moving all the bins from the store room myself into the other rooms where they are stored under the beds. One at a time, kinda slow. It's a painful process but once I got them all moved to where they belong, I tried moving the walking pad. Managed to get it folded flat and scooched to the bottom step. No Way. Brought in the hand truck, again no way I could get that up the stairs (75# +).

By this time it was 11:00. I called him and yep, he had forgotten. He was here about 15 minutes later and within 10 minutes, it was placed in its new room. Piece of cake with two people.

So it's done. Hooray!

Now that the equipment is in the new Summer Room, I have no excuses not to do the physical therapy exercises. So...yesterday I spent an hour (with various interruptions from the dogs) working on getting stronger before summer arrives. Some of these exercises require lying on the floor and I noticed a few spots where the painters tape peeled off a bit of the fresh paint on the walls. Got out the paint and touched things up.

Did some other small chores which included placing the motion detection lights on the stairs. I have four of the under-cabinet lights, USB rechargeable. There are five steps. Had to wait until dark to determine placement for the best light. That is now determined so today I will mount them. Not sure how that will work as it will require screwing through the new carpet into the wood behind it. Fingers crossed...

Plan for this morning was to go to town for a few small, not important errands. Six inches of new snow fell during the night and it is still coming down so will postpone that until the roads are safer, maybe Monday.

The little old shih tzu is showing more and more signs of doggie dementia and weakness. This must be something with that breed; my other two shih tzus did the same thing during their last year. I am trying not to think about what the near future holds. Keeping a very close eye on him as he gets "lost" and when I leave the room for more than a few minutes, he barks his "Where are you?" bark, a new behavior for him. I also think he has lost most of his hearing. Sigh. Here we go again.

Yesterday, we ended up with about 12" of snowfall. Had plenty of help in shoveling the important areas. 12F/-11C this morning, high today forecast below freezing but the next few days it's supposed to get up to 50F.

Work on the house has switched from one major project after another to concentrating on details in one room at a time. The next planned project is in the Creek Room, which is a small sitting room with a bay window facing the very nearby creek. The big thing in this room is to finish out a window frame.

That wall was the first project done, right after I moved in. There was a bay window in that wall, too, but the way it was built caused major snow buildup with resulting rot everywhere. You could literally push your entire hand into the window frame! That entire wall was torn down and rebuilt with a "normal" window. The contractor I hired (who ripped me off price wise), did the major build part. I did the inside finishing work. Didn't completely finish it, needs sanding and painting. I hate sanding. Anyway, that is what needs to be done, along with painting the baseboards. Trying to psych myself up for it.

Yesterday, I attacked the window frame. Sanded, wood puttied, sanded again. I hate the prep work but I did cover most everything in that room with plastic sheets: love seat, lamps, tables, baseboard heaters. I also wore a dust mask and safety glasses. The dust was awful! and I was so glad I had done that. Waited until today to let the dust settle as the room actually looked sort of "foggy". It is a huge hot mess.

Today will be clean up and if I can get that done, will start priming what needs to be painted. Tomorrow, I have to go to town so maybe this can get finished by Wednesday? I hope so!

Cleaned up the mess but oh how that hurt. I should have taken today off as I was still a bit sore from snow shoveling. I just wanted to get it done. I pushed myself too much today; tomorrow is running errands, much easier. Maybe some laundry, too. Need to take it easy for a few days but at least the room is clean.

I know it's not the food my dd feeds them, she feeds only natural and high quality, she has their teeth cleaned every month etc... She's had 15 dogs, and the rest didn't get it....... and I don't remember dogs getting dementia when I was young... so I don't know what's causing this, do you ?

When my husband decided to quit drinking and smoking, he did have a difficult time with the smoking. He bought a book and learned some useful hints. He decided that every time the phone rang, he would light up and then answer the phone. This was a trigger to light up, so, he put a pencil in his mouth and pretended it was a cigarette. It worked. Over time he decided to buy
some Barley Sugar sweets but then became addicted and he was eating 1 packet a week.
He did put on weight but said it was better than smoking. It took a good 6 months to get over the habit of smoking and quit for life. He did have a big jar and put money in it which showed how much he'd saved - the jar contained $600.00. Giving up the drink was easy for him.

Maybe...Had a vet who did a neurological exam and said it was a "central nervous system" problem. When he said that, I asked, "Brain?" Yes. Maybe a tumor? IDK. My BFF had a yellow lab who displayed similar behaviors before the end. They didn't seem to be in pain, although that is difficult to assess in animals.

hmmmm.... but why so much of it lately?.... never heard of it 40 years ago.... certainly our 3 were/are in no pain at least not with the demntia...... but it was heartbreaking to watch as they spaced out, didn't know where they were , didn't know who were were.. for 15 minutes at a time...

Thank you! Today, I did about seven small loads of laundry, changed bed sheets, and cleaned the main living area/kitchen. Too much but tomorrow, will finish taxes, a sitting down activity. The old back is complaining but pffft, "Stop Your Whining!" Gonna take things easy the next couple of days.

It feels good to have everything (well, mostly everything) clean again. I have been neglecting those duties during this most recent project. Funny how I will sit around procrastinating on getting something done, then one day get moving and can't seem to stop once I get going.

Last night, I realized the mini blinds on the window above the kitchen sink need to be removed and cleaned. The last time I did that, one of the mounting brackets broke. Luckily, I was able to locate them online and replace them. I am a bit nervous about taking them down again. And I need to give things a break for maybe a few days but it's just one thing, right? Where I have to use a step to stand on the counter to get at those blinds and maybe that's not a wise thing to do right now. Just Stop!

Do the taxes. Then maybe clean that ceiling? There is some shoveling gravel outside that needs to be done. NO! Do the PT exercises, which I know will help. But what to do the rest of the day? Maybe go to town and visit a shop or two? Library? IDK. Is this Spring Fever, of a sort? It is sooo hard to do nothing! And to do something fun when there is work to be done just goes against the grain. Argh!

And I think of our beloved @Pepper and all she is suffering, along with others here who would love to be able to do these things, even with limitations. So I tell myself to just shut up. Just do the damned taxes.

Taxes are finished. I had already mailed off the federal return but discovered an error a week later. I am submitting an amended return since I missed a major deduction. The refund is now twice what I originally submitted. Ha!

Spent the rest of the day yesterday just sitting around thinking of all the things I could do. Today, I will do some small chores that won't require a lot of bending, etc. I had ordered a wall hanging (to cover a "flaw" in a wall that must stay there) and received two of them. Huh? Went back to the order and sure enough, it was for two. What to do with the second one? Not worth returning it. Not thrilled with it but it will work. It's good enuff for now. Will hang it using those 3M thingies that can be removed without damaging the wall. I love those things!

Sometimes, stuff just works out. The "under cabinet" lights that I had ordered to light the stair well presented a challenge on how to mount them. Each has two small metal plates that mount to the surface, then the fixture itself is magnetic so it sticks to those plates. You can pull it off to recharge it when needed. The plates have a sticky backing along with a screw hole. Was afraid to screw it down, through the carpet, may damage that new carpet.

I did a test of mounting using just the sticky backing and it worked! Hooray! They are motion detecting and it's pretty cool for them to light up as you go up those steps.
