Enter At Your Own Risk

i had no choice but to go no contact with my family. the hurt was too much. i am doing better now and have no intentions of turning back.
I am sorry you had to go through that, too. When the pain they inflict is worse than the pain of cutting off contact, there is no other choice.

LOL, the reason I use "GoodEnuff" is because with them, I am never good enough. Tried for most of my life until one day I realized that I didn't have to meet their demands. Not perfect but definitely good enough.

Hugs to all who have been through this in their lives.

Yesterday, I helped G finish moving. Mainly, we loaded bags of stuff and took it to the local dump. There were also some things for donation. Everything is out of the old place now. Hooray for that. She will now start sorting through the things in the two storage units she had to rent and to put together her new camping trailer home. This move happened so fast that there was not much thought put into sorting, etc.

I think she is going to hook up the water in the little trailer. Hopefully, there will be no freezing weather. Last night, I read about her specific trailer and it is much different than the ones I lived in. Very complicated in comparison. I pray things go smoothly for her.

Eighteen years ago today my husband passed away. Eighteen years is a long time. It's very strange because sometimes it seems like recently, other times so very long ago. Some days I really miss him; other days he never enters my mind. I remember the good times we had together and the good times I have had without him since, which never would have happened. I wonder what life would be like if he was still here. What we, as individuals, would be like now in our old age?

He was a Good Man, not perfect but then neither am I. Every day he would tell me he loved me. He never forgot a birthday or anniversary (I often did, lol). Now and then, I have conversations with him, usually when I am struggling with something. Will there be a reunion when I pass over? Will he be there to meet me? That would be nice but I don't know.

Meanwhile, Onward thru the Fog, with one foot placed in front of the other.

@MarciKS Yes, I'm okay. Just nothing much going on.

It has been raining, snowing, sun at times, since last night. Snow didn't stick; it's 40F outside. We need the water so I have no problem with it. Such a dull gray day, the sun did come out for a bit and I took the dogs for a short walk.

Did laundry. Made appointments so will be all over the place for the next week.

Today, I must go to the larger town to have blood drawn in advance of a medical appointment tomorrow. Then back to the same place tomorrow.

Monday, the car goes into the shop 50 miles away to have the oil leak fixed, which will take 4-6 hours. Luckily, I was able to make a hair appointment during that time frame; this salon is where I had the first haircut over a year ago and it was fantastic. Since then, I have been going to a local salon for trims but the last cut was a mess. I will be glad to have it done right and in the future will just have to make that long drive for this.

The shop has a driver who will take me to the salon and pick me back up when ready. So glad for that! The salon is located in the downtown shopping area so I can look around there instead of sitting in the mechanic shop's waiting area for hours. Hooray for that! There will be no buying of anything, however, with the $1400+ cost of this car repair.

Tuesday, one of the dogs goes to the groomer for the first professional groom in about four months.

My friend who moved into her little camper trailer is doing well. She loves her new digs. Her kitty has disappeared; cats just don't do well when moving. It is accustomed to a rural environment and is a good mouser. Hopefully, it will find its way back to the new place or else somebody in the area will take it in. Lots of barns and such for it to hide out.

It's 24F this morning! The flowers that were trying to bloom in the little garden are hanging their heads.

Last night, the little spaniel kept jumping off the bed, looking for mice I think. She finally settled down around midnight. Even though I have traps set in every room, I may set out a few more today. Judging from her behavior, there must be another one? How they are getting in is beyond me. With all of the work that has been done on every exterior wall, the entire roof/soffits/fascias, every interior wall, plumbing entry, you name it, everything is sealed! If it warms up, I will check again for possible points of entry.

I have considered getting a cat but the litter box, cat hair, etc., make that a no go. And not all cats are good mousers. Many people here have outdoor cats but I wouldn't do that. Winters are too harsh, predators common. It feels cruel to me. We are on the neighbor's cat's route. It needs to step up its game.

Stopped in Tractor Supply the other day and they had baby chicks, ducks, etc., for sale. They are soooo cute, cheeping away. Stood there and watched them for a few minutes thinking maybe I should raise a few chickens? When I thought about how much work that would be, especially in winter, Nope! But they were very cute.

Our mice used to get into the walls from outside...climb to the attic and get into the house chewing holes in the ceiling. Sometimes they'd go running across the attic and fall down into the wall and die and stink the place up so bad it was enough to make you wanna 🤮.

Sounds familiar. The siding on the outside walls and the roof is now installed in a way that they would have to chew through rubber, then 29ga steel. At least, I'm pretty sure about that. Like you said, I have twice had something die in one area of a wall and the smell comes through a light switch. When that happened, I covered the switch and plate with several layers of heavy plastic and taped it down. Took about six-eight weeks to go away. Awful!

When the roof work was being done, hundreds of large pine cones were discovered in an area of the attic that was perfectly sealed on the outside. No entry possible. Nope. I asked the roofer how did they (squirrels) get in there? He said there were two holes chewed through the wood from another area (it's a strange roof configuration). They chewed through 3/4" plywood! He cleaned it up, sprayed with peroxide, replaced the insulation and then closed it back up. He also said the pine cones looked old.

I think back then they were getting in where the fireplace used to be. That is gone now. I catch a mouse about every three months. Strangely, I never see any mouse droppings or signs of chewing. I just need to accept that living in a forest has its disadvantages.

One thing I have learned is that the glue traps catch spiders! I would see an occasional spider, no big deal, but those glue traps each have more than a few dead spiders on them now. Who woulda thunk?

Glue traps are great for spiders and other bugs. I had one apt I lived in that had so many spiders I put the roach motel boxes down. They were all recluse spiders. How I lived there without getting bit is beyond me. The first month I bet there 50 spiders in each trap. Freaked me out.

When you live in a rural area instead of in town you are more prone to critters like mice. Squirrels can be very destructive. We used to have coyotes that would show up in the yard in broad daylight with roadkill in their mouth. They'd lay in the middle of this wooded area by the garage and snack. Scared the bejesus outta me one day when I needed to go to work.

I found it! The book light. You know, the kind that you clip onto a real book. Checked out a couple of books from the library yesterday and last night realized that I needed a brighter light. Remembered I had seen it lately but where? Sure enough, it was in the kitchen junk drawer. And it still works! And since I took it out of the junk drawer, does that mean I have made a start in clearing out that drawer? Two Birds! Woo hoo!
