"For all those who missed it", (and in truth I could only be bothered to watch the odd snippets, and had chosen the Bulgarian entry as my favourite, though admired a few others performances, and am not displeased a genuine rock band won), these were my highlights:
A ten year old boy from Greece was chosen to tell everyone the number of votes their country's panel had given to the best ten or twelve songs/singers/groups or whatever, and did a really great job. As I've chosen this as my number one highlight this says something about the rest of the show, (but he was the youngest ever to do this, so worthy of comment for the confidence shown).
The UK entry got zero votes from all the country's panel votes, and zero votes from all the other thirty eight country's telephone in votes by members of the public, the only performance to achieve this feat and they deserved exactly this result for presenting such dross, (the last time we took part in 2019, there being no show possible last year due to the pandemic, the UK was last then too, so we're consistent if nothing else).
The winning band from Italy looked mean and moody all night, (just as a rock band should I suppose).
The massive presenter lady didn't disappoint, and we saw plenty of her, though the black lady presenting the show was the pick of the four I felt in terms of talent and personality.
Other performances worthy of a brief mention were the riske, or almost pornographic ones from the likes of Cyprus, the Edith Piaf like entry from France who came in second I think, Germany's novelty act came in second to bottom, so almost as bad as the UK, though I enjoyed their efforts more than ours, and there you have it in a nutshell, "a great show" but without any irony "a greater effort to put the show on in these circumstances" (as many said).
