Ever Been Pulled Over By Police While Driving?

Since police behavior is a hot topic these days, you can relate your personal experiences.

I was pulled over three times in 78 years, so not too bad I guess. Twice by local cops and once by state police.

The local cops were out to raise revenue in my opinion and had speed traps set for that purpose. One got me on the way to work at the bottom of a hill with the speed limit at some ridiculously low number. I paid the fine because I didn't have the time to fight it.

The second was the same idea of setting the limit low and waiting to pounce. I fought this one and won because the copper had the wrong date on the ticket.

When I was 19, a guy I knew and myself got to arguing whose car was faster. Mine was a 1952 Mercury, and his was a 1953 Ford, both flat-head V8's with sticks on the column. We started on a long entrance ramp onto the interstate, and as he was beating me by 1/2 a fender, we saw the flashing red "gum-ball machine" in the rear view mirror. We slowed and were motioned over and told to come and sit in the cruiser. He thanked us for pulling over because in pursuit, they never know what they are going to run into. We were cooperative and lost our licenses for 90 days. I told the trooper that I was going into the service in a month hoping for a break, but no break was to be had. I would not have needed a license anyway in basic so it was not too bad. Over all, the trooper didn't seem like a bad guy, but then we weren't any trouble either.

In 52 years of driving, I've been pulled over & had 3 tickets - one speeding when I was 19, one for a left turn from the wrong left-turn lane & one "Failure to yield to an emergency vehicle."
I was guilty of the first two, but not the third & the cop was desperate to write a ticket. I don't argue with a cop, so I just went to traffic school so my insurance wouldn't go up.

I've been pulled over a total of 3 times for a bit of speeding. :sneaky::unsure::whistle::censored:o_O:cautious: The last time was on a visit back home and I was travelling down a street that has an elementary school zone; on a Saturday, I might add. I argued (nicely) and didn't get a ticket. I was going 35 mph on a 25 mph stretch. Lord. If they (back home) only saw how they drive down here where I reside! I blame the people from the valley for my speeding.:ROFLMAO:

Same story here! I got pulled over going too fast right near an elementary school. I wasn't checking my speedometer, and that's what I told the cop. And I told him my own grandkids went to that school, so My Bad. In fact I actually told him I felt really bad about it. And it's true, I did. I felt like a schmuck.

He didn't write the ticket.

Three times...once for speeding, once for having a broken brake light, and once for driving too slow (in Arizona)! There was a lot of construction going on and I wasn't familiar with the area.

I remember being pulled over twice when I was younger. Both times were while riding a motorcycle so the speeds I was doing were really up there - like double or more?
The first one, the cop was convinced he'd pulled me over just days before. I said no, that wasn't me sir. He was gonna throw the book at me but after checking and finding out it wasn't me he'd pulled over previously, he let me go with just a warning! I was shocked (pleasantly). The other time was late at night so road was empty but again he got me at a ridiculous speed and was about to really do one on me when he got a call on his radio about something more serious. He just yelled at me from his cruiser to get outta here and drive safely then he took off in a hurry. Another bad one avoided.

Pulled over twice, once while driving to work in the dark and had a headlight out I was unaware of. Told the cop I'd have my husband replace it when I got home from work. The other time was years ago after buying a new vehicle, it was evening on a local street and I was driving home with my girl friend from a martial arts class, I had my parking lights on instead of my full headlights. I was unfamiliar with the new controls for the lights. Put on my lights, no problem. Never received a ticket for anything.

Yup, twice for "speeding"-by local cops. The reason for the { "speeding" }was both were speed traps. The limit was 45 EXCEPT for a two block section that was 25 mph., where a cop JUST happened to be sitting. That's how most small town police forces got funds a while ago. PA was famous for its speed traps.

Way back when, I couldn't afford a newer car, and it was a junk. The inspection sticker expired. Nobody would inspect it, so I made my own "inspection sticker". And it really looked good if I say so myself. I used water colors to get the right tint. Well, it was a hot, humid day, and the colors ran. It happened that my neighbor was a cop., who noticed it. He pulled me over. He looked at me and said, "You misspelled 'Pennsylvania". I got a ticket.

Pulled over four times by officers.

1. When in college, was returning from an event with three coeds in the car. 10 p.m. at night, an officer stopped me for speeding in a school zone!!!???? Dark. No school in session. I went to court and the judge asked if I was traveling the speed on the ticket. I said yes. He assessed me $45.00 fine and court costs. I was dead broke. Had to borrow the $45 from my, then, girlfriend. No! She was NOT one of the coeds in the car. After being married to her for almost 55 years... she hasn't forgotten that incident!!!

2. Was spending lots of time on the road in the 80's. Purchased a radar detector. Within a week of getting the radar detector, I was stopped twice for speeding by State Police. Ticketed both times. After the second ticket, the radar detector went out the window into the road ditch. Hope it still remains there... rusted and rotted!!!

3. Mid 90's was stopped by a State Police officer at 7 mph over the speed limit. He was very courteous and told me to slow down. No citation.

The last 15 years of my career, I was driving 25,000 to 30,000 miles/year. Never stopped by an officer. That does not say I shouldn't have been. I have always had a heavy foot!!!!

When I was young, back in the late 1960’s, during the height of the Vietnam War, protests, hippie movement, my buddies and I would sometimes get stopped and hassled by the police when we were walking at night, usually from a friend’s to home. The police would always act like hard asses and try to intimidate us. That was their style in those days.

A friend of mine had long, blond hair. One night we were walking from my house to his, less than a 1/4-mile distance, and the police stopped and started harassing us. We were both 16, I had a driver’s licenses, he didn’t. My friend’s name was Chris. The cops turned their attention towards Chris and started harassing him, I was sure it was because of his long hair.

After a few moments of harassment, one cop asked Chris if he was male or female. Chris replied, “what difference does it make if I’m male or female?” The cop didn’t say anything (looking back now, I think the cop realized how stupid his question was). They gave back my license, got in their cars, and drove off.

Once for speeding....I did what I was taught to do. Had a laugh with the officer and went on my way without a fine. Had to cop a lecture for keeping my handbag in the boot of my car.

I cannot stress enough, even if you are fearful...be respectful, use commonsense and display manners Mama might have taught you.
.

Yes.

Once in early 20's for expired tags. I swore I put them on but didn't. Fix it ticket.

Speeding about age 26. Mid 80's. Got a ticket, I think it was 45 dollars. I cried. The cop was nice.

Pulled over, tail light out, early 30's. I couldn't find my registration. I acted very stupid and the cop just let me go. No fix it ticket.

Pulled over for suspected drunk driving a couple of years after the previous. It was probably about 1 in the morning. They said I took a turn way too wide but I was in my identifiable work clothes on my way home from work. I was clearly not impaired, perhaps a little tired. Let go. They didn't hit their lights until I pulled into my apartment complex.

I'm a fat, ugly, white woman. I'm not seen as a threat. The cop who let me go when I acted stupid (oh yes I was doing so on purpose) probably thought I was such a loser, I wasn't worth the time. That said, when you look like me, I might not be seen as a threat but I have been treated terribly by people. In my case, it's not the police however.

I've probably had a half dozen speeding tickets in my 60+ years behind the wheel. I've got a bit of a "lead foot" I guess....drag raced in my younger years, and I still have the urge. They usually get me when I'm 10 or 15 miles over the speed limit...luckily never when I'm pushing 100 on a wide open highway with little traffic.

Never got a ticket. Got a warning in the TX panhandle for speeding, a "go get it fixed" lecture about a tail light that was out, and was stopped by the polizei in Germany for doing something I can't remember what was (no ticket, but very scary for a few minutes).
