Ever count your steps?

Noticed that I'm starting to count in my head a lot more when performing menial task like climbing stairs,
walking to the kitchen, putting my favorite nuts in a bowl, etc.

Always been one who falls easily into a routine since I can remember, but counting things like steps, is a new one.

Don't like it if I'm disturbed.

If it's changed, I'm confused and it takes me a while to get my rhythm back.
Usually to get it back, I have to start again and get to the end, but not always.
Probably why I'll finish a movie or book even if it is really bad.

The term 'shortcut' is very unnerving for me.
If the instructions say start with step A, then move to B, then to C, I can't just skip step B even if I know
it can be skipped without any harm being done.

Maybe how I'm hard-wired, just seems to be getting worse.

Hoping it's that I'm just getting older.

I even keep a spread sheet of my routines like how much I eat...what I eat...how much exercise....when and how long I sleep, etc.... I had to because the smallest changes effect how I function, and my memory is not what it once was.

Oddly..I've always done it. If I'm walking alone with no specific purpose., whether in the street or going upstairs in the house.. I almost always count my steps , I've done it since being a child

It is normal. I count steps too. Studies have consistently shown that walking more is better for your health and well being. This study provides further support — and associates higher daily step counts with lower all-cause mortality.

might be ocd,i do the same thing.has gotten worse since i have aged.i was counting the utensils as i was putting them away the other day.i dont know why.

I count things too… when I’m doling out my various supplements into my pill minder I always count. The number is always the same but nonetheless I count each pill as I am popping into it to its slot. I count steps as well, and will count random things like the number of Christmas decorations on the lamp posts as I’m driving down the street or the number of the uprights in a chair etc.

Yup

OCD

40 some years ago, I'd count steps,
starting with getting outa the car to the back porch, other routine places too.
Had to end up with an even count.
Did that for a couple years.

Had a chat with myself
Told me to 'knock it off!....it's weird!'
Took awhile, but it went away

I let myself have the volume on the car stereo on an even number
But nothing else
The number of Cheerios in the bowl went unattended
Cracks in the sidewalks were no longer a problem
'Counting' went away
