Ever get a tune stuck in your head ?

I had to run to the store and they play mostly oldies on the PA system so for the past hour I've been singing over and over in my head........"I want to put on my, my, my, my boogie shoes and boogie with you."

KC and the Sunshine Band 1975.

Almost every day! Today it's, You're Still The One (Shania Twain). Sometimes the same song will be there for days.

I played Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here album yesterday and Have a Cigar reached through the speakers and encapsulated me for the rest of the day.

I was 54 yrs old before I discovered that other people DID NOT hear music all the time - and I mean, all the time! I thought it was normal and so never really understood the appeal of CD players strapped to your arm or iPods in your pocket. Unless I am concentrating, such as reading a book or standing over a stove cooking, I always have music running through my mind.

Sometimes it's the mention of something that sets it off, but not always. I will just wake up in the morning and some stupid chorus will start endlessly repeating...for days on end. What drives me crazy (figuratively, of course) is that it's often songs I don't particularly like.

It's called "musical hallucinosis" or "musical hallucination". More women are affected than men. It's harmless, but distracting (since I don't have epilepsy, brain lesions, or alcoholism, which are the most common factors). It's why I loved doing Tai Chi, but can't sit and meditate, LOL.

I have heard (and I tried it....it didn't work for me but some people swear by it) that to get an earworm out of your head, you have to sing the song out loud at the top of your lungs for several minutes. It's worth trying.... I don't recommend you try it at work or in line at the grocery store, though

The supermarket hubby prefers has a music loop of one hit wonders of the 60's and 70's. So aggravating I wouldn't shop there if not for him. A whole afternoon with "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" saturating your brain...

My hubby sometimes starts singing. He's got a huge repertoire. There's one from Cool Hand Luke he sometimes sings - 'I don't care if it rains or freezes, long as I got my plastic Jesus sitting on the dashboard of my car..... doing 98 ain't scary.....'. Takes ages to get that one out of my head.

After many years, there is one tune that still crops up in my head. I took my family to Disney World and we visited It's A Small World After All. For months I just couldn't get rid of that tune and even now, I still hear it off and on.

Oldies having lyrics are much easier for me to recall titles and performers of, than instrumentals. Example: "Pipeline", the Chantays; "Green Onions" or "Time is Tight", Booker T. & the M. G.s. imp

I've heard that called an "ear worm" Hate that phrase.

A while back I heard London Calling by the Clash on the way to work and it was stuck in my head for two days.

No tunes, but I keep hearing radio calls over and over on the police band in my police car. Sometimes, it keeps me awake because I keep listening for my number to be called. "Philadelphia 14 and all other units in the Del Valley area, please pay attention to the following BOLO." It drives me nuts sometimes.
