Ever met an online friend in person?

ZAA==

I tried saving it as a much smaller file, using Picasa. I copied and pasted, and it looked like the picture was there, except when I clicked on Post Quick Reply, it disappeared. Guess it's impossible.

That’s too bad Sunny. I guess I am lucky in that my phone has a edit feature that dies all that and then some. That’s a bummer. I was looking forward to seeing the handmade potholders.

Happyflowerlady. Your story about your online friend Ina was so moving.
Thanks fir sharing that with us.

Cee cee, the antenna you helped me get for my T V is still doing the job fine. I look at it and think 'thank you'. ;)

Ina was an important part of this forum for over three years, and when she died last winter, I think that it was a blow to many of us who had been good online friends with her on this forum, as well as on a smaller forum that we both had also been on for several years.
People are more like family on a smaller forum, and Ina really needed her online family to help combat the grief of losing her son and then her husband.
I really believe that we can have just as good of a friendship with people that we only know from online as people that we just meet in “real life”. It is all a matter of finding people that we can trust and relate to, and then a friendship can develop.

So true, you and I have become good friends over the years.... on Facebook and the occasional text message. :)

Yes I miss Ina..every time I see a thread resurrected by a newbie, and still see Ina's posts on there, it's as if she's still with us...

Yes, the first networking site I was on for Boomers had groups in which I made connections with several members. Some of us became quite close just via our common interests, support of each other's problems, etc. After that site closed down unexpectedly, some of us migrated to Facebook. By the time I met both my friends, we had been online friends for over 10 years. We got to know more about each other via personal photos, blogs, comments about different topics, etc. I met one of my online friends for lunch at our timeshare. Turns out she used to work there. When I walked into the restaurant, we hugged as if we were old friends who had known each other forever. We had such a good time. Another friend I grew close to had her daughter drive her from another state to meet me at the timeshare. I booked a room for them (they paid) using my deeply discounted rates and they stayed overnight. I did treat them to a meal though. We had such a great time just talking and getting to know even more about each other and hanging out by the water that we hope to be able to do it again.

Another friend who happened to own at the same timeshare as I did met me and my sister for lunch at a small beach town nearby. Yet another friend that i connected with on FB found out that we are from the same city. She picked me up a few times and we lunched at Applebees a couple of times. She wanted to drive past certain areas where she and her family lived and just feel nostalgic. We had lunch again at another fancy restaurant with a mutual FB friend and FB friend of theirs I hadn't "friended" before that. We lunched and talked and laughed for 3 hours...surprised that they didn't kick us out. LOL They started watching us though. There are several more I'd love to meet. My online BFF lives in Cali however and I'm in Jersey. We've "Facetimed" but I doubt I'll ever go to Cali to meet her.
