Every time I do a weekly shop, my regular buys have increased in price

Today we filled our car with gas. We go to the local reserve where their gas is cheaper than other gas stations here. Today the bill was $100.00 we have never put 100 bucks worth of gas until today! Shopping today as my son and I always do on Tuesday and grocery prices keep going up too. I blame Covid-19, and Putin.

Blame Putin? My grocery bill and gasoline price was going up long before Russia invaded Ukraine. Blame a different head of state.
Yes, this inflation issue was in place well before Putin started his war. IMO, there were 2 primary factors....1. the supply chain issues; caused by Covid, and 2. the government "stimulus" programs that put billions into the consumers hands....which caused extra spending for items that were already in short supply.

The government needs to recognize that they cannot solve every problem simply by "throwing money" at it.

Ditto…and it’s not only prices, but availability. In addition to paying about 30% more for a week’s groceries, items like saltine crackers have become difficult to find. We live in an age of wonder…you wonder if you can find your items, and then wonder about how much you’ll have to pay for them!

In Russia the supermarket shelves are still pretty much stocked.. their Supermarkets in the cities are enormous.... ..but the common factor between the big shops and the small local grocery stores is that Sugar, Paper goods ( especially paper for printing) cat food, and ladies sanitary goods are now in short supply... so watch out , it may be coming to us soon...

Right! There's no such thing as "one stop shopping" anymore. Any grocery trip I make nowadays involves 2-3 stores before I get everything I need.

I must possess a magic wand. Really I just know how to shop my a*s off. 😂 My monthly grocery bills have consistently been about $16 lower than projected based on anticipated inflation and averaging only $1 more per month than last year. I know this because I use a self tallying (monthly and annual) budget sheet to record my spending.

My costs are stable because I shop at Costco and their prices rarely change for the items I buy most. Plus more than half of my purchases there are sale items. Also our local supermarket has some really good prices; haven't noticed many raised prices there either. I also buy most items when they are on sale. Example: Francesco Rinaldi usually $1.39 in Walmart, probably more in other supermarkets, often on sale at our local market for 88 cents. Even got some jars for 77 cents last year. I do stock up on items when they are on sale too.

And lastly: I have discovered some really good generic products that save a a whole lot of money over the brand names. I really believe some are made by the name brand companies. I won't buy a generic again if I don't care for it, no matter how much cheaper it is.

This is a video that explains the nature of inflation, and how it is out of control. It is not meant to be a pro-socialist post, it is meant to help us understand what inflation is and how it affects us.

I saw gas here selling at $3.98 per gallon. This is the first time it's been below $4.00 per gal in almost two months so this is a good sign to me.

Online food shopping is declining. It may be more convenient, but it carries extra costs that make going to the grocery store less pricey, in an increasing number of locations. As food and fuel prices continue to increase, only those who are somewhat disabled will find any advantage.
For the record, I have never used online grocery shopping and I'm not dead yet! I go to grocery stores and I enjoy browsing the shelves because that way I can find out the bargains. I understand folks with mobility problems doing the online shopping. Sure can't understand why the rest of the human race needs online shopping for groceries? I wonder if people are getting that lazy that they can't even shop for themselves anymore? If you ask me, they need the exercise. They need to see another human being and keep their mental capacity working well.

Every week I get some flyer from some outfit like, "Crack the Dishes" or whatever. They promise me 7 free meals. Others promise 14 free meals. Hey, dude! No one makes any money giving away free meals. I throw all such flyers in the garbage and go out shopping by myself when I need something and hey, I'm happy to have the exercise.

Online food shopping has One Big Advantage. It allows the grocery stores to fulfill the orders with items that are nearing their "best by" dates, and produce that is almost ready to decay. It helps the grocery stores save some of their "disposal" costs.

I agree. I've never used online shopping through this whole thing. The fresh air and exercise and "talking" with other humans is so much more beneficial than staying at home. 😊

It's too bad we have to eat!😂. As my Father would joke..We'd all be rich if we didn't have to eat!

But,kidding aside, there should be a food buying protest...we should grow our own food, if possible!

You know like they did years ago, called victory gardens.

My d&s-i-l do..they have land to be able to.

But, even if you don't.. there's container gardening.
Just a thought!🤗
