Excessive Depiction of Sex and Violence in TV and Films and Video Games

I have watched Shameless on Netflix and after awhile there was so much sex and this woman was enjoying it so very very much and being so very verbal about it and I started wondering if everyone was like her. I mean did everyone enjoy it THAT much? I think she was over acting!! lol

I get it on my Roku and watch it on my regular TV, like Netflix.

There's another one I'm thinking of signing up with, called Britbox. I cut the cable several years ago and really enjoy these streaming services. I'm a bit annoyed at Netflix -- it seems to me that lately most of what they are adding is just junk. The quality of their programming has really gone down.

Ill have to take a look at that one also. Agree about Netflix. Ive been watching more on Amazon video lately.

I seem to be on British kick and have recently binge watched "Call the Midwife", "The Crown" and "Mr Selfridge".
 
This is an interesting thread....we should start a movie review for all that rent movies.
I use NetFlix and rent the disc as I don't stream with my satellite service.

I avoid the overly violence and sex movies too.
 
Have you met my neighbors? Disemboweling them sounds like a good starting point. :)
The whole purpose of fictional "gratuitous violence" is to create a sense of gratuitous violence. It's a genre of entertainment, as are love songs. It's the same as seeing a Godzilla movie, you are going to see the trampling of Tokyo
 
Oh for the good old days of shows like Ed Sullivan. That disgusting gyration by Elvis was not allowed to be viewed. Elvis was at the height of popularity so having him on the show was a must, but the camera work for his appearance had to be shot from the chest up.


Another would be The Rifleman with Lucas McCain. Back then being shot by what was probably the equivalent to a 30/6 the bad guy being shot would fall and no blood would be seen. Now the bad guys fly back due to the impact and a blood filled gaping hole is in plain view.


I can't imagine Ed Sullivan hosting a dance show like Dancing With The Stars or So You Think You Can Dance. The skimpy outfits worn by the feamles would probably give Ed a heart attack. It's amazing how far from the excitement of seeing a bare ankle to the ho hum boring attitude now when shows showing women in a thong have come.

Butterfly, I just tried Britbox for 3 days and canceled. Not worth $6.99 imho.

It's constantly buffering
Not a lot offered
Much of it is about the royals, which I did enjoy but overall I was disappointed. Acorn is better.

In order to avoid the high cost of cable TV the initial cost to set up Amazon, Netflix, Nvidia, & KODI was about what our cable was costing us per year. Once & done now streaming a ton of programming is free except for the cost to run the TV. At 1st we had a buffering problem because we were only getting 60Mbps download speed with wifi. Problem solved use cat 6 cable, delivers typically between 175 to 190 Mbps

We've really gotten into Spanish tele novels. Even though we both speak Spanish the English sub titles help when local slang [Colombian or Mexican] is used.
 
There are some very good documentaries on the streaming channels, also. Netflix has The Confession Tapes, a real shocker showing real-life stories about people who are bamboozled into confessing to crimes they did not do, just so the prosecutors could clear up their case files. Some of the innocents who got long prison sentences (and some are still incarcerated) were teenagers at the time. One of the worst cases was in Canada, of all places!

Another interesting one, I think on Acorn, is called something like Killers in the Victorian Home. It's about unseen killers that lurked within those elegant homes. One was the wallpaper, believe it or not. It contained arsenic, so toxic that many people died just from inhaling the fumes!

Ill have to take a take a look at that one. My free one week subscription to Acorn will run out this week.
 
I think that one was my all-time favorite series, Radish. I watched it twice. For those not familiar with it, it's a beautiful love story about two people in their 70's, and their families. Takes place in the English countryside, and stars Derek Jacobi and Anne Reid.
 
Are we allowed to discuss House of Cards? (Sorry, just being mischievous.) ;)
