Expensive and Gone...

A set of half-carat each diamond solitaire earrings. Think I accidentally donated them to a charity...
I haven't seen them in 1-1/2 years and have hunted plenty. Hope springs eternal that they'll reappear in my home at some point. If they don't, I hope they're the source of a turnaround moment for somebody who needed something good to happen in his/her life.

Back in 1970, I was working as a process server. Since I had to be in bad parts of town & I wasn't very welcome - serving eviction notices (mostly), I carried a gun. The landlord of one apartment warned me to be careful when I served a tenant he was evicting. He explained that when he asked for the rent, the tenant stabbed him in the stomach. He recovered, but he can't eat normally.

I knocked on the tenant's door & he seemed nice; until I handed him the papers, then he reached behind him. I started backing up & he approached me, swearing, then I saw a knife in his hand. While pointing my gun at him, I yelled at him to get back. He went back into his apartment. Other tenants saw what happened & called police. They arrested him, but they confiscated my $800.00 gun. Getting it back would have cost me more than it was worth. Judge also fined me $125.00 for carrying it.
$925.00 was a lot of money back in 1970.

Two brand new gold watches. One, I'd taken off to try on clothes in a shop, not wanting to snag
anything. Forgot it on the shelf. When I remembered, of course, it was gone. Another simply
fell off my wrist, unbeknownst to me. There was a point in my life that was happening to me, often.
Bracelets - even earrings .. simply falling off.

"Lost" most jewellery of any significance when burgled.

I lost an antique locket my Mom gave me. I wore it to high school and took it off for gym class. I know I put it in my locker. Couldn't have been stolen because we had combination locks. I'm pretty sure it slipped in the tiny space where the metal wall met the floor of the locker. Back then all the lockers were hooked together, they would have had to dismantle the whole row to try and find it.

Thought I'd see "my mind,"
I've come close a few times, I think(?)
Ah sanity, it is not what it is cracked up to be...
Worked with a severe schiz lady for some time, when she was eventually got carried to 'the home.' She left several notebooks, read them...gibberish mostly, some comments on folks 'watching her,' that was about it.

my husband lost his, too...
My late husband lost his wedding ring playing baseball. We combed the field.....no ring. Six weeks later during a game, someone yelled "Hey! Look what I found!" Yep, his ring.

I had a gold watch fall off my wrist. While I didn't actually lose it, I did run over it with the car. Anyway you look at it, that watch was a goner......

Wow, now how did that happen?!

A combination of invincible feeling youth and way to fast on a curve. Around a corner, lose control, skid across the road, hook the shoulder and flip, continue sliding on top until large elm tree stops you.
Living proof that God loves fools as 3 young idiots walked away and learned a valuable lesson. ;)
Sure was a beautiful car.

Yeah, and trees don't move do they! Hit one as a passenger when I was 16, broke my nose in 5 places...the ear, eye & throat doc did major improvements when he rebuilt it as he discovered I had a deviated septum - no wonder all the sinus issues. Kind of like a tornado going through the fertilizer barn at Texas A & M and scattering the blessings around.
