Experts see high chance of ‘global catastrophe’ within 10 years

No, there are real scientists who argue that the word "catastrophic" highly overstates the effect of a slight increase in global temperatures. They aren't saying there will be zero effects; they agree that an increase in global temperatures will cause changes, and those changes will cause problems. But they are quite certain those problems are not insurmountable because we are capable of overcoming them through technologies, i.e., agricultural, marine, economic, meteorological, geological, etc
Catastrophic if we do nothing is what I meant as well as we shouldn't take a chance on setting timelines because that's always a mistake. And unfortunately, while some politicians are trying to make some changes and investing in technology, they're still at the whim of the voters, many of whom are terrified of change even when it's needed.

Take Canada. We have a PM who is trying to facilitate a transition in our country and as a result of doing some of those changes and investments and programs, he's possibly going to lose at the next election and the party that would likely take over, actually took a vote inside their party that climate change isn't real. And to date, they have no environmental plan, just a vague assurance that 'technology' is the answer, even as they demand cuts in spending, pump more oil, etc.

What do you think will happen to the environmental programs that Canada's current government is trying to push forward if that party change happens? And having scientists who aren't speaking with more urgency, is fodder for not bothering too much when we need to be getting on this. That's human nature, put it off today and we'll get right on that.....sometime. It's like they think they can slow and turn around the ocean liner on a dime instead of admitting that we need to be getting on this now, without wasting time.

Simply buy the best stuff you can. You can do no more, except go down to the boat launch and drive out there where the river runs thru
it with the windows down. The Governments of the world are planning WW 3 and do not care what you wish for. They all scream total B>S> They only want to go on reaming and spending as they please.

I don't expect any catastrophe unless it is something like a serious depression or the regime change wars going on today coalescing into something even worse.

However deglobalization is already under way. That might be locally catastrophic to economies relying on the global policing of trade routes which is ramping down and the markets previously guaranteed by treaties which are less and less likely to be renewed.

The Governments don't care what you want, they never have and they never will. If you wish to think you can change them.. Not gonna happen.
They simply move the circle of power about, but it never actually changes its intensions. Your worry is a Volcanic eruption, huge asteroid and a Nuke. Thas what you need to focus on. Lots of people know that.

I can only say that your claim that the "overwhelming majority of climate scientists agree that the Earth’s climate is warming and that human activities, such as burning fossil fuels, are the primary cause". Is not supported in your post where exactly is this stated/ documented? When writing about the IPCC, you comment that they have stated that it is "extremely likely” that human activities have been the dominant cause of global warming observed since the mid-20th century" Again, where did the IPCC say that? what you seem to not understand is I am not saying I don't believe what you say, but where can I verify that your sources actually say what you say they did?
I think it's correctly implied when you consider that NASA CO2 graph I've shared in several places here. You can see that right after WW2, the carbon levels in the atmosphere were at their 'traditional' highest levels of an 800,000 year trend and in the years since, those carbon levels skyrocketed above that. What has happened in those years is that we've all begun to travel all over the world, we've all bought cars, our eating habits have changed a lot and we're eating more meat and dairy and getting food from all around the world, we've been buying more and more stuff, coming from all across the world, more and more forests are being cut down, etc.

All of those things cause more and more carbon to be released and some of them are allowing more methane to get into the air from gas wells, abandoned oil and gas wells, melting permafrost because the world is warming, not to mention the billions of cows, sheep and goats and pigs and chickens that are consumed. And methane is 100x worse for the environment than carbon.

While those are some of the causal factors, here's an IPCC page that says we have done it....

The report shows that emissions of greenhouse gases from human activities are responsible for approximately 1.1°C of warming since 1850-1900, and finds that averaged over the next 20 years, global temperature is expected to reach or exceed 1.5°C of warming. This assessment is based on improved observational datasets to assess historical warming, as well progress in scientific understanding of the response of the climate system to human-caused greenhouse gas emissions. Climate change widespread, rapid, and intensifying – IPCC — IPCC

Plant millions of Acres of hemp for Green Irrigate for green and buy the best stuff you can and go on. Hemp is the Answer to replace the depleted forest that take Decades to grow. Its the best option to remove CO2 effectively and affordably. Otherwise kick your own self in the Arss.

I'm going to be dead hopefully before the global disaster. But really aren't we already going through a global disaster?

All these wars going on and the fuels being emmitted into the atmosphere have to count for something. People are not as civilized as they claim to be, they kill each other like it's nothing and make paltry excuses. It's disgusting.

Many animals are becoming extinct due to greed and poor ethics. Is there any hope for the inhabitants of the Earth? Human beings are the most deadly and violent beings on this Earth with how they are destroying everything.

That was a fairly passionate response and I appreciate it. I can get dramatic about the problems we all are facing now, but I would rather keep a cool mind and discuss the current impact these challenges are causing now. I think we do that quite a bit on this forum. Everyone is aware of the "problems", and we will work it out one way or the other. I am doing my best to have it be NOT the other. Being aware of the real science is very important. How people come up with that science varies quite a bit. That itself is a problem.

How can we get accurate information? I use the internet. I watch various YouTube videos from all angles. I read reviews of current books on the subject. I am now starting to ask this AI assistant questions, and the answers have references to information! But true questioning and good science is what I rely on. That too can lead to many different interpretations.

Awareness is the start. Information is the food. Understanding is the goal. :)

I get so tired of people perpetuating the fallacy that people are experts. It's become synonymous with fortune teller.

I've worked in Engineering offices my whole life. Engineers never see themselves as experts. They see all new projects as a challenge and a new learning experience.

They realize that your assumptions must always be challenged. They propose solutions then wait to see if the applied solutions are effective and for how long.

Nature is completely unpredictable and mankind can only react to an emergency as best they can.

I just recently watched a video about how engineers troubleshooted the leaning of the Tower of Pisa. They did a lot of measuring and monitoring the conditions of the Tower. Then applied a few educated guesses until one approach helped to arrest the degrading conditions and improve to an important degree the tilt of the Tower.

People become experts only after fixing a problem.

Can anybody fix the problems that occur on a global scale? They can deal with the problems that arise on an individual basis.

People claiming to be experts is just publicity.

I can imagine people who have been studying climate science for 50 years, keeping up with the most current tech, and research becoming someone you could call and expert. (One of the most notable/respected/ etc ). Was Einstein a expert. Hardly. He would even say so. The best we know is the criteria. No need to pick on a word. What about global warming?

Yep, that is another big one. I think Paper is on to something also. The Government s are busy with other more important stuff, like who controls the oil, war, big money ( corporations and lobbyists ). I don't have much trust in the current electoral process. It weeds out people who care about people, and leaves us with the same old choices. Who is worse.

The news presents too many big and scary stories for me to take them seriously anymore.

Okay so the climate is changing. Okay so disease comes along and claims lives.

Is this any different from life on earth as we know it?

It's a sick society that sees disaster, crime as fodder for entertainment.

The reality is that life is pretty ordinary.

We only control what lies immediately in front of us. Worrying and being concerned about things we don't control is creating an illusion about I'm not sure what.

I only know that the news media controls our thoughts and tries to dictate what we concern ourselves with.

We're all bored. So let's tell scary stories.

If your donkey falls into a well can you work to pull it out on the sabbath? We have to maintain our environment. It takes planning. It is not to big because every choice you make is effecting life as we know it. Responsibility for a gift so incredible as life needs concerned, intelligent, caring sentient beings. It can happen. No one needs to worry about it. Just move in a direction that is providing the best for other people to have a fair shot at having a life. Equality is something we can help bring about,, as we already have made progress. More progress is needed, and will eventually be the predominant meme. Caring is not burdensome?

Engineers spend a lot of their time buying stuff to make stuff. Sure, they design then buy stuff to make the stuff.
Many times, they learn from not buying good nuff stuff. Failure, the pain, oh the pain. Plant industrial Hemp.
Plants can clean the air of Toxins. Give Farmers a good reason and watch it grow. The Pungent early humid
valley air. Smell the virtuous life. Huge amounts of fresh water need reclaimed from the sea for irrigation to grow
in all the mt millions of acres deforested, deserts, bad lands, etc & lowering its sea levels as years pass.
Creates more rain/snow/ice and better. It's sort of a no brainer. Canadians remember the past. Now less rain
less snow & ice. they worry. More clouds, cooler Earth. Ever notice how fast things cool off when the moon
blocks the Sun for some minutes. Only a few seconds pass and temps plunge downward. It's only a small swath
but if you are in the total dark areas you reach for a jacket, the dew pops onto the Golf Course and chills run up
your back. Dyson Sphere.

You and I will be dead before it's really horrible, but I have an 18 month old grandson and another on the way. They will be old when things are starting to get really horrible as far as climate goes (if we don't start taking care of our world).

And you're right, the world seems to have entered such a state of chaos in the last 8 or 10 years! Yesterday I read an article about 60% of jobs disappearing in the next 30 years from AI and this morning I was watching a video talking about the danger of AI videos and phone calls and emails and such where 'people' we trust are actually AI and giving disinformation and misinformation regarding voting and elections and what government bills have been passed or rejected....

The last video said 'watch the mouths' as they speak and you can see a disconnect, but they're going to get so good, you won't be fast enough to see that at some point and then all bets are off. I said to my husband after watching that, that we're lucky we're at this end of our lives and checking out 'soon'. And that our generation had lived through the golden age of the world. Going forward, you won't even be able to trust your eyes, your ears, the words of others....whose agenda will we be following?

And climate change will bring those too as more and more ancient permafrost thaws and releases the virus's held, into our environment.
Zombie virus revitalized from permafrost: Facts and fiction.

From the link:
Thirteen new pathogens, called zombie viruses, remained infectious after millennia of freezing. The virus emerged as a result of permafrost thawing. The new strain has one of 13 viral genomes. Pandoravirus yedoma, 48,500 years old, is the longest frozen virus to become infectious. It is older than the 30,000-year-old virus identified in Siberia in 2013 [3,4].

It is unknown how long these viruses will remain infectious if exposed to outside environments and whether they will find a host in the interim. The risk will increase when the permafrost thaws and more people migrate to the Arctic due to industrialisation.

Don't worry you will be able to drive across town with barely another car traffic on the expressway.
Everyone will have gig jobs from home. Just buy the best stuff and quit worrying. Generally KWH
production will go sky high with new nuke plants, solar and wind power. Batteries will work well and
life will be much better. Heat pumps will be awesome and food will be fresh. You will be able to take
vacations on Cruise lines and rent RV's. There will be parking garages for EV bicycles. Travel will
go back mostly like it was in the 1700's as people won't have to be going distances much anymore.
A chip will keep you satisfied, pain and suffering will be a thing for the dying. The rest will be content.
Your chip will be imbursed weekly and you will shop just thinking buy and deliver. Marriages will
dissolve, no one will ever be lonely, sure, it might feel like a broken nose at times but you will manage.
Populations will drop significantly over the decades. No need for lots of kids anymore.
Those newborns, immediately chipped will do well, scientifically prepared for more freedom, open air and MT
spaces. They will meet thru video and have fun with each other. No need for classrooms, schools or training
centers. The Chip will make it all good. It won't be anger getting us thru the mess anymore. Uncle
has fixed stuff well. Don't worry you will be happy, content, good diet and warm. Don't worry.

There is nothing to worry about. EVERY HUMAN BEING alive today WILL DIE!!
Yes. I posted a funny sign but I seriously believe something will happen someday. We'll either be dead or alive and live or die through it. We don't know what's coming. There's so many different things that could end us.
Live for today. Oh, and repent.

The Planet just needs to turn back green, the Deserts need to be fertile, the forests will take forever to return so just green and irrigation, better electric KWH's production. Everything will be ok if all that happens gradually. Spray water in the air Irrigation of Millions of acres of vegetation, Hemp, tall grasses etc. and it can rain more, snow more, be colder due to cloud cover.

There is an unlimited source or fresh water, just get the salt out. Those Sun gods and their Goddesses will hate it. Basically, Rain every day, snow every day, frost every late October, November, Dec. Jan, Feb, March, maybe some of April.

Cold will win the day and KWH's upping to unbelievable levels will be good too. Nuclear, solar and Wind Electrical production at unbelievable levels as we know them today can save all of our descendant's, they just need to stop the "War's shit" They become GIG Workers, seldom leave their home office during the week and only travel a few miles from home to shop.

Understand that leaving the earth to survive as a specie is incredibly stupid. It's crazy!

Well Officer may I think something?
Just drive down to a boat ramp where the river runs thru it.
Late some evening, you may need to research the best opportunities.
Roll down the windows and just drive in at about 45 mph.
4 minutes or so and your pain is over.
No $100,000's paid for absolutely scam care.
Your loved ones will salute you!
