Nice thought, but you KNOW that won't be the way it all goes down.

Now that people know these birds are there, there will start to be a desire among collectors. The poachers will learn of those desires, set their prices, then go a-huntin'.

In no time at all the population will be gone.

A couple of months ago I went to a small presentation by a gentleman that had done his PhD work in New Guinea. He had a ton of slides from the early 1960 (when he was there) which was before they were, oh, "modernized". Mostly slides of the people but some of the flora and fauna, and he remarked several times about the diversity and beauty of the birds. The natives use the brightly colored plumage for their own adornment.

Those birds look like artists decorated them! So amazingly beautiful.

Then there are the bower birds and their gorgeous nests!



Animals have an amazing depth to them that too often, humans simply disregard. Very sad really.
