I just heard that the family of a 17 year old who died at the dentist office getting two wisdom teeth extracted finally received a settlement for their loss. I think this is so sad, I've heard other stories too about people dying at the dentist or going into comas due to the administration of general anesthesia for dental work.
General anesthesia is a risky thing, in my opinion. I have had my wisdom teeth pulled many years ago with just a local anesthesia injection in the gum. I would of course get it if I was having an operation in the hospital, many times there's no choice. But I think they are more experienced there to react to a problem than they would be at the dentist.
Honestly, I don't even casually let my pets go under anesthesia unless it's absolutely necessary. We've scaled and cleaned our dogs teeth for decades where they didn't need to be put out at the vets for a cleaning. There are a lot of stories also about pets dying during a dental cleaning.
Did you ever receive general anesthesia for a dental procedure? Did you ever know anyone who had a bad experience with this? I think the most I would ever do is take a pill sedative, and have someone drive me home afterwards.
