Fat shaming, the last "acceptable" prejudice.

Ruthanne, I am so sorry you have been exposed to that cruelty. Hugs.
Thank you Shali. A guy down the street from me called me a pig a few years ago. I don't know why people seem to think our bodies are fair game for them. Hugs to you, too.

I thought 'size 16' - that's not big, but then I realised you mean a US size 16. That would be a UK size 20 which is getting to be on the big side. The thing is to wear clothes that suit. Too many big people try to squeeze into smaller clothes and the result is that it makes them look bigger.

You sound like an equestrian clothing catalog where XL is size 12! I don't know whether to ;) or :p.

"shaming" for any reason is just counter-productive. There may be some DNA to blame for overweight for some but for me it was:

Obese= too much pie inserted into piehole.

I'm still smiling because he equates a US size 16 with not being that big. I'm going to tell all my friends I'm not all that big after all. :coolthumb:. W

Wait, never mind, seems my size 18 fits better, maybe, next month.

You are beautiful just the way you are!!

I weighed myself a month or so ago for the first time in 6 months. Not a big surprise, I had gained weight. I vowed to lose 20 pounds. Have tried to be careful in what I eat, get a little exercise almost every day (walk 2 miles most mornings), etc. Finally weighed myself again today. Only 24 pounds to go! ;)

I know how that goes! Happened to me today, too.

I guess we all know, those of us who keep riding in this rodeo. I get weighed at the docs regularly, last to digits always fluctuate up or down 5-10 even 15good or bad.at least all my blood work and vitals were good where it most counted.

Glad your blood work and vitals were good!

I'm always heavier at the doctor's office than I am at home. I like to blame my REALLY HEAVY shoes.

No, European sizes are different than US sizes. For instance, when I was in Europe I wore a size 40 shoe -- here it was an 8-1/2 -- and a size 90-something (YIKES) bra.

I know about the size differences. :) But nowhere but riding clothes is a size 12 an XL! XL is like 18-20 in the rest of the US clothing world. Equestrian catalogs seriously discourage anyone but very slim women from buying riding clothes. Not just small sizes, but no curves at all. Basically women built like pre-pubescent boys.

I think people should make an effort to stay within their recommended body weight proportioned to their height. I realize that not everyone can exercise, or run to stay fit, but unless people have a health issue going on, I think people should try some form of exercising and also eating the recommended foods to stay fit. I don't make fun or tease anyone about their weight. Doing so with the wrong person may get yourself hurt. But whenever the conversation comes up about a person's weight and they are the one that brought up the issue, I try to convince the what they are doing to their body.

I jog 4-5 days a week and watch what I eat to stay trim. Not everyone can do that, but there are less strenuous exercises that anyone can do. We should all do some form of exercise and eat the right foods. A little cheating now and then is OK, just as long it doesn't go beyond that.

I still have memorable pictures in my mind of my Mom doing exercises with Jack LaLane.

I think that I read somewhere that diabetes is now the number one health risk in America and obesity is to blame for a lot of it.

I have seen many domesticate fights start over men calling their wives/girlfriends fat names. We have all seen pictures of a big woman wearing a muscle shirt and the caption reads, "Man Hater" or "Trailer Trash." It's by no means funny, but is very demeaning and can start a fight. I know this to be true from personal experiences.

We had a Trooper several years ago that was the other way. He was about six foot tall and weighed a mere 150 pounds. To put on weight, he went to a Nutritionist and was given a high protein diet with carbs included.

Just for fun I looked at a size chart, if I got a 36 DD bra in Japan it would be 95 E, no wonder I've always wanted to be cupcake sized:(
