We are planning a big vacation. I'm researching fun spots to visit. The sky's the limit. Where is your favorite place you've been? (In the US, I don't think we are planning to go out of the states.)

I personally love it right here in NC. The beaches are gorgeous, and that's where we will spend our time later on. We just want to have that one big trip and see all the sights. I'd love to hear everyone's input

Lots of beautiful places in the States, Grammie. Will you be flying or driving? Do you prefer beaches or mountains? Tourist destinations or off-the-beaten-path? How much time will you be scheduling for your trip?

San Antonio Texas and the Texas Hill Country have much to offer for tourists, and the best time to visit is in the spring, or the fall. There are the Old Spanish missions, The Riverwalk, El Mercado, the Briscoe museum of Western Art, A Japanese garden, even a circus museum. We go to San Antonio several times a year and always find things to do. The Hill Country has scads of wineries, The Nimitz Museum of the War in the Pacific, and the LBJ ranch and boyhood home, Enchanted Rock, and lots of scenic drives.

There is a very big world out there. You could travel for years and not see it all. You might first decide how far you would like to go.
I have visited 48 states, but there are still places I have missed out on. I have gone to 18 countries, but just scratched the surface.
Some places we visited were colonies, Gibraltar, the Cayman Islands, Martinique and St Maarten. Enjoy it while you can, it gets harder as one ages.

I enjoyed Nashville, Las Vegas, New York City and Denver.

I see that you are from North Carolina. Did you ever hear of the following towns?

I spent time in Rocky Mount. Way back when I was in college, I dated a bi-racial girl from Rocky Mount. After we had dated maybe 6 times, she asked me if I would like to go home with her for a long holiday weekend. She was staying with her Grandmother here in Hershey while she attended the community college.

I thought about for awhile, but then agreed to go. She wasn’t from actually Rocky Mount, but a small town just outside. The name of the town was Tarboro. She also had an Aunt in another even smaller town named Hobgood.

We had a great time down there back then. I thought dating a bi-racial girl, I may have trouble down there. This was back in 1970. I was treated really well and everyone was fine with our relationship. We weren’t serious, just good friends. I really enjoyed her company. She loved to sing and so did (still do) I.

My favorite places are in Vermont and New Hampshire for sentimental reasons.
I went to a 2 yr college,Vermont College in Montpeiler,VT in the 70's,part of Norwich Univ{military}
Every summer when my siblings and I were much younger,we spent part of our vacation renting cottages in Thetford VT,on Lake Fairlee,VT We enjoyed spending part of our mornings in Hanover,NH
My parents lived in a retirement community there,Kendall at Hanover,to me it was like a second home
One of our summer trips in '68,we went out West to Grand Canyon,Jackson Hole,WY,Disneyland,San Francisco

Yes, boy is it ever a big world out there! ... I've been to 49 of the 50 states, and several islands too. Wonderful memories.
Going on a big trip probably needs a direction..
Every part of the country has it's beauty and unique places. It all depends on what you like.

Banff British Columbia, Vancouver Island, Algonquin Park Ontario, Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, Jamaica, Florida, California, New Mexico, Albuquerque, Northern Ontario, Niagara Falls, Grand Canton, Disneyworld and Disney land are lots of fun but also overwhelming if you have any type of social anxiety

California is a great place to visit, with lots of variety. Yosemite, San Francisco, San Diego, Disneyland, Avenue of the Giants, Sequoia National Forest, Napa Valley and its vineyard tours, and lots more.

Im not a big Bali fan but about 18 years ago we stayed in Ubud. Hotels there nestled at the top of rainforests. Our hotel in particular was a former artist colony. From our room you could see tree tops and monkeys playing on branches. With mist and light rain adding to the atmosphere. No technology in rooms adding to the detox. Had a few beers though. 😀😀
A real contrast from the Aussie city i live in which tends to be very dry and a flattish landscape.

The Redwood forests. I just wanted to walk and walk and enjoy the silence and the beauty of those trees.I loved most all the National Parks that I've been through. One in particular was the Teddy Roosevelt park mainly because I had never seen wild horses before going there. Road trips through Vermont stand out because as a child we always vacationed there.

Is that the one with the covered canals?
Do they still run gondolas thru there?

I fell in love with Corpus Christi when I worked in Texas
Did some roofing there after a hurricane
Loved the town so much
But that was in '69

Cross country skiing, in Yellowstone, was one of my favorite trips, but you need to be in very good shape. Vegas is always a hoot, if you are quick to learn how to zig and zag around with a rental car, avoiding the teeming masses who plod the pavement. Vermont, during Maple Festival, was amazing. Driving the complete PCH, stopping in towns, along the way, is a great summer memory.

Not covered, but there are many arched stone bridges and towering cypress trees. Large, flat bottomed boats filled with tourists ply the shallow waters of the San Antonio river. It's truly lovely. And in August, hot as the outskirts of hell! We were just there with the grandkids and we all had fun.
