Amazing, simply amazing and we put people in jail for smoking pot?

Immigration officials knowingly released dozens of murderers and thousands of drunken drivers back into the U.S. in 2013, according to Obama administration statistics that could undercut the president’s argument that he is trying to focus on the most serious criminals in his immigration enforcement.
Among the 36,000 immigrants whom U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement released from custody last year there were 116 with convictions for homicide, 43 for negligent manslaughter, 14 for voluntary manslaughter and one with a conviction classified by ICE as “homicide-willful kill-public official-gun.”

Sometimes I wonder if these central American countries aren't emptying their jails similar to what Castro did in the 80s with the boat lift. Also just because they are an "immigrant" does not make them squeaky clean or morally superior. They might have determination and money because someone has to pay those smugglers for the long trip but that does not make them an innocent victim. I've lived and worked in heavily populated immigrants areas and even the immigrants fear many of their own countryman because they know where they are from or their reputation precedes them.

They keep on talking about family and kids but what kind of family/parent would put their child in the hands of criminal smugglers. Or rent their kids out to others. If a US citizen parent simply leaves their kids in a car unattended they're charged with child neglect/child endangerment.

I have no problem with asylum or refugee status but you have to ask for it rather than demand it, take it or voluntarily live a criminal life to avoid the process.

Demonizing by oversimplifying a complex situation is a common practice. To read that headline, one might get the idea that the govt either wants dangerous criminals roaming the streets, or that they just don't give a damn.

But after reading the article one learns...

...the agency was required to release immigrants because of court decisions, including a 2001 Supreme Court ruling that found immigrants whose home countries refused to take them back could not be held for more than six months.
ICE said 75 percent of the convicted murderers released in 2013 were considered “mandatory releases” in compliance with court decisions.

The administration deserves to be demonized for this. For starters the administration and their followers have been harping how they deported more illegal immigrants than the previous administration which is lie because they manipulated and/or played games with the statistics by counting caught and immediately returned border crossers(catch and release) as deportations which is longer a full blown legal process. In the past when the administration has been challenged on their actual lower deportation number they claim they are concentrating on deporting the dangerous criminals first. So to release criminals out on the public goes against their stated policy along with public safety.

Then the article says they could've held on to many more because they were in the process of deportation. And AT least 25% of those released could've been held. And knowing they had a court order barreling down their butts they could've bought time with more appeals & counter suits along with building additional facilities which would lower the number per facility and over crowding. The not building more facilities is even more frustrating because the excuse makers & apologists have tried to write off the recent surge of illegal border crossers as statistically predictable.

At this point the administration policy and handling of the current surge of illegal border crossers and illegal immigration is a farce.

And this ^ coming from the "make the dang ol' gub'mint smaller & lower my taxes" crowd!!!!

Talk about a farce!!!

Given that the Republicans in the House have been slashing the budgets of govt agencies left & right, who do you propose would pay for all that? Or didn' t you realize that it costs MONEY to do all the things you proposed?

BTW, the article ALSO said that the ones they released were those who were determined to be the least threat & able to be monitored.

Hate to be the one to break it to ya, but we don't live in a perfect world where things always just work out the way we all wish they would.

But you guys go ahead & continue to have your fun & make yourselves feel better by blaming anything & everything you can pull out of your butts on the black guy.

Here are some sources for catch & release and the so called policy of concentrating on criminals(which have been in the news from various sources)

As far as the spending I'm not talking about a skyscrapers or office complexes. Simple warehouse type buildings with utilities and real basic detention stuff. These would be for deportations only. The administration wants to throw 2 billion at the problem now-you could've built and supplied several warehouse type buildings for 2 billion. To top it off there's enough in congress that have no problem spending on anything defense related wether it's the military, border fence, drone tech etc. I'll be the first to admit that the RINOs have aided and abetted the illegal immigration problem for decades. W junior did a better job but not what he should've probably because of brother Jeb live off the family name with an immigrant wife and corporate friends. The whole problem is that most plans wind up a work in progress. If nothing else the border should've been sealed with extra patrols or completed fence.

But the current administration has made a bad situation worse and with all the censorship and nondisclosure you cannot help think they have zero control or are executing an agenda. It looks like a farce. And we will be lucky if it is a farce and not a plan.

Not all is international..

This thread brings to mind the dark side of what happened after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans in this country.

The then major (White) of Houston got national praise for bringing bus loads of victims from the New Orleans area to Houston... about 200,000 people. .. It was widely reported the officials in New Orleans opened up all the jailed inmates and loaded them on the buses headed to Houston ...
Now, they claimed to have secured the Astrodome when those bus loads of people arrived, and kept a close eye on the situation, but after weeks went by and the gripe loosened ... major crime rates spiked in Houston.
By then, the major was out of office and left town, and who knows what happened to all those criminals left on the streets of Houston. Nothing good for sure.
Today, still, many criminals caught in this area are part of that influx.. and can be traced back to criminal records in New Orleans. But life goes on ....

Well, as for the cost of building detention facilities, you know that once they build them, they have to be staffed, maintained, utility bills paid & the entire program managed & administered, which of course means hiring & training even more employees who, of course, will have to have the usual compliment of employee benefits, etc., etc. And of course there are a myriad of other administrative costs that we couldn't even begin to fathom.

But since you were willing to admit that the Republicans & Bush own at least SOME of the mess, I'll concede that it's possible that Obama has not done the best job he could have either.

But I also think that we all know how complex & intricate these situations are from the perspective of those who actually have to deal with them. It's easy for us to criticize, not knowing all of the countless little miniscule details, trade offs & compromises that have to be made & other considerations that have to be taken into account.

The only thing I'm hoping for (& appreciate) when I debate these kinds of topics with people, is a little bit of fairness, balance & moderation. You rarely ever find the truth on either end of the extreme. It's almost always somewhere in between, nearer to the middle.
