Feminist Trends: “Are You Speaking To Me, Momma?”

 I am going to assume that it is only here in Sweden where the modern “feminist” has completely lost her mind. A rather common sight is a Swedish woman with a mobile telephone tucked under her chin, a takeaway coffee in one hand, the fist of her other hand wrapped around the push bar of the pram-buggy with a cigarette clutched between the fingers, dropping ashes on her newborn. Along she trundles, talking – forever talking – into the telephone. And I wonder what baby is thinking, “Are you speaking to me, momma? There’s no one else around so I guess you’re speaking to me.”

Ps. If I am stepping on someone’s toes right now ……. good! You are disgustingly selfish and you ought to be ashamed of yourself!

When my foster son's grandmother said that her sister was talking about adopting the little guy, I said, "That's great. She can raise him from behind her smart-phone." The grandmother said "Well, better than raising him from behind a crack-pipe."

It's a tragic era when a statement like that is food for thought.
It certainly is.

Verisure, after a good night's sleep and a good deal of personal introspection I have deleted my posts in this thread and apologise to you unreservedly.

I've never see anyone dropping ashes on her baby, but there have been a number of times when I wanted to tell someone - predominantly women but not exclusively so - to put down the phone, pay attention to what you're doing, and maybe show a little awareness of the people around you.

The most memorable one was a woman who had an infant pressed against her with one arm while holding merchandise in that hand, had her cell phone in the other hand, set on speaker phone so everyone nearby could enjoy her conversation, and was trying to get small items off the shelves by extending a couple fingers of one hand or the other.

The only time I was outraged at a parent's treatment of an infant was when one of my neighbors went speeding by on a four-wheeler, steering with one hand and clutching the baby over his elbow. He had the baby squeezed against his hip and the poor little thing's legs were bouncing up and down. I'm sure when his wife heard about it she whacked him good with a frying pan. Why we women marry idiots like that I don't know.

Your post is utter garbage. What you have described here has nothing to do with feminism.

Since you have placed a chip on your shoulder and invited someone to knock it off, let me be the first to take a swing. As for what you have described being a "rather common sight" I can say, as an old woman who walks around shopping centres being frequently distracted by babies in prams, that I have never noticed any such behaviour as you have just described.

As for your post script, you are the one who should be ashamed. I don't know what triggered your attack on women but consider this - when someone points the finger, there are always three fingers pointing back at the accuser.
The "chip on the shoulder" is yours alone and your lack of reading comprehension has clearly played right into your hands.

Advice:
1). Read.
2). If you are upset by what you've read, read it again to be sure that you've read it correctly.
3). If you've followed points one and two but still get yourself twisted over my (or anyone else's) personal experience then see what you can do to remove the chip ..... alternatively enjoy your self-inflicted anguish.

I can see that you understand very well.

This is a Senior forum. I’ve been here quite a while now and I know of no woman here who has an infant they’re pushing around in a stroller. Some of these members can barely walk!

And if you had any familiarity with the general consensus here, you’d know that a large percentage of the membership decry cellphone useage except for emergencies.

Know your audience.

What about this scenario makes you think this woman is a feminist?

She has a bad health habit (cigarette) she is being careless with it but she does seem to have her hands full. She probably should put the phone down but then, we don't know how important the call is. Still, I've never heard that feminists are more likely to drink coffee, smoke, own cell phones or have babies than other women.

Since you don't like feminists I gather you don't think women are equal to men, so I'll keep that in mind in the future.

Quite a few years ago I was at the park with my 3 and 4-year boys. It was equipped with several things for children to play on including a rope & wood slate bridge leading up to a spiral chute. I sat on the bench to watch my boys and to cheer them on. A woman arrived with her daughter, who was perhaps 4 year's old. The girl was eager to try out the spiral chute and was very excited, her face beaming as she navigated the bridge and looking to her mother for recognition. But no. The child's mother sat with legs crossed and a newspaper blocking her face from the world.

I have seen similar situations with both sexes. Just yesterday I saw a guy watching his kids in a store and never once took his eyes off his phone. His kids were running around the store, but he never looked at them. A friend of my daughters visited my daughter with her small baby and the husband was smoking all the time. The first time he lit a cigarette in my daughter's house she told him "If you are going to smoke it isn't allowed in the house " After that he went outside to smoke. There are many idiots around us of both genders.

That's true. Just at the corner of the afore-mentioned park, I saw a young father of about 30 enter a corner shop. He had to first cross a VERY HEAVILY TRAFFICKED bike path. About ten meters behind him followed his toddler child. Did he usher his child across the bicycle path? No. Did he at least look back to see if a bicycle was coming? No. There were screeching tyres but I don't think he even noticed.

..... I admit that I have never been to Sweden ... but I'm wondering where it is common place to see feminists talking on the phone while simultaneously dropping ash on their infant children. There must be a lot of such irresponsible women in Sweden.

Trouble is the smoking rate continues to fall. The decline seems to be roughly 2% per year and the overall rate is now probably about 25% for men and women above the age of 16.

Of that 25%, how many do you suppose are feminists of child bearing age? Why is it that you see so many where you live that you need to post an unnecessarily aggressive post script calling anyone on this forum who dissents disgusting and selfish?

My reading comprehension skills are perfectly up to the task of understanding your post.
You Sir, should reread your own words and apologise.

Sweden Smoking Rate 2007-2021

Prevalence of smoking is the percentage of men and women ages 15 and over who currently smoke any tobacco product on a daily or non-daily basis. It excludes smokeless tobacco use. The rates are age-standardized.
  • Sweden smoking rate for 2018 was 28.80%, a 2% decline from 2016.
  • Sweden smoking rate for 2016 was 30.80%, a 2.1% decline from 2014.
  • Sweden smoking rate for 2014 was 32.90%, a 2.2% decline from 2012.
  • Sweden smoking rate for 2012 was 35.10%, a 2.5% decline from 2010.

* If you've never been to Sweden then why do you feel that I am wrong or that I've stepped on your toes? The "chip" right?
* If you do come to Sweden take notice of the percentage of women who smoke as compared to the men who smoke and don't forget to reply to this thread afterwards. You won't need to count ... the difference is glaring. But don't worry, I'm a nice guy. I won't tell you, "I told you so".

Read the popular posts where there is lots of discussion that goes on for pages. Especially on subjects that you are interested in discussing or in forums that appeal to you.

Ask questions instead of making definitive statement (e.g. “what do you think defines a feminist/are feminist characteristics”) etc.
That doesn't make sense. I don't need to read "lots of discussion that goes on for pages" before I say what I have to say on my own thread and I don't need to ask what others think before I say what I think on my own thread.

What I said in my OP is true and I have more experience than anyone else that I've seen on this forum. Do you know someone with more experience than I?

well I don't know about dropping ash on the child...but certainly I've seen the scenario all too often, the mother, child/children being absolutely ignored while the parent chats on the phone. I've seen too many times, close calls..with her pushing the pram out in front of her into the road, while on the phone and not paying attention to what's going on around her.... Very often there's a child in the pram, small children walking at the side, a dog on a lead, and her head buried in the phone..

Not only is it dangerous but what conversation do the kids have...?..look at that lovely flower, do you know it's name?.. what about this duck shall we feed it.. ?... nope.. the child has little or no interaction with the parent, and don't get me started on those who sit their kids at home or in a restaurant in a high chair with an Ipad and cartoons for company

I don't care whether its men or it's women but we have a very serious cellphone addiction in this country; as strong as smoking pot, heroin or cocaine. I have constantly noticed contractors starring at their cell phone while they should be working, people crossing the streets and starring at their phones rather than watching the traffic and the worst of all, seniors coming to happy hour or coffee time, putting their phones in front of them for all to see. Perhaps they are waiting for that important call for them to leave for Ottawa to become our next Prime Minister. They truly must be very important people (V.I.P.s) For crying out loud! If you can't come to a social gathering once a week without dragging their phone with them, they they are addicted. And I am not going to start on all those grandmas show the photos of those "oh so cute and wonderful" grandchildren. Sorry grandmas, I have noticed this over and over and over. For some reason men don't do this "oh, he/she is so cute" bit. I wonder why?

You hit the nail on the head - all of them. (y) (y) (y) As a father, it pains me to see it. I love children and I assumed every parent does. Wrong, I guess. When I see a child in that situation I want to do something, but what? Shout? Give the parent a severe bullocking? Or just fume over it? Yes, it's the latter. ☹️

You are absolutely right. It's an ADDICTION.
